Lift Stories

Hey
People have post stuff about shit they saw on the lift in threads, but there is no thread for it all. So here it is. Post your lift stories, it can be anything at all. Heres mine.

I was going up the lift during night sking and it was dead silent because it was a pretty crappy night and no one was around. So I was sitting there by myself when all of a sudden I heard what soounded like a gun shot. I almost shat my pants. Turns out it was a tree that had been iced up by a snow gun and it couldn't take it anymore so it commited tree suicide and cracked off. Pretty cool.

Another time my friends and I were about to get on the lift and this guy flies by us and gets on the lift we were getting on. We didn't care and stopped and got the next one. So half way up the hill he lifts up the saftey bar thing and hurls himself off of the chair. He landed on his side and snapped a ski in the process. Then he picked it up and tried to ski off, but ski patrol caught time.

And there were a bunch of times when people have dropped shit off the lift of double ejected their skis some way, but thats really not a story.

all right i got one
i had just got on the lift with this little girl and here mom. the girl was probably 5 or 6 maybe  i dont know anyway when we go to sit down the little girl just keeps standing until the mom grabs her. so were pulling here up on to the chair when the lift girl finally stops it were a good 15 20 feet in the air.
we cant get her on the chair.
then her coat starts to slip off so the ski patrol under us tells us to drop her.
that was so hard

not many things brake me up but that did

on the ICIEST day i've ever  been skiing i saw a guys die when i was on the lift with my dad.  it had rained pretty much all night n than frozen over in the morning.  he was at the top of the mountain n lost an edge on the ice n than slid head first directly into a rock wall on the side of the run (which knocked him out), only to proceed down the steepest run on the mountain face down.  The whole way down the run his wife was trailing him on her ass screamin in absolute horror, but couldnt catch up to him.  at the end of the run he slid head first into another rock wall at an estimated 80 mph.  u all could imagine wat that was like.   it was probably the most traumatizing experience that i've ever had on the ski hill n still comes to mind every time i slip out a little bit on a patch of ice.

that sucks especially cause his wife saw the whole thing go down. it woulda sucked more if he had started bleeding after hitting the first rock and just left a gnarly blood trail all the way down to the 2nd rock.

First chair lift of the season. last saturday...

waist deep pow everywhere and some dude is bitching about how the groomers are all torn up already...i turned my headphones up real loud. and he poked me and asked if i agreed with him. i just started jammin out and he then proceeded to fall when the lift got to the top...

i was skiing at solitude wit me uncle and we're waiting in the lift line.  the people in front of us go to get on the lift and for  some reason my uncle just follows them and dosnt realize that it isnt his turn.(hes from florida)  So when the chair comes around he gets all tangled up in the two other people and they all eat shit and the chair just hits them in the back.  when they were untangled and got on the chair the two other people where all like what the fuck were you doing and stuff.  i got to ride in the chair behind them.  many laughs

I was skiin with 3 other kids and we went to get on a 4 person high speed chair lift which wasn't that big.  I was on the outer edge and thought I was in line to get on.  All of a sudden the chair lift whips around, and the armrest side part catches me in the ass, takes me up about 20 feet, I fall like 10 feet into some pow face first and my skis pop off.  I was pretty embarrassed.

I was sitting on a lift talking to some older guy, and he asks my friend and I how old we are and we said, "16 what about you?" he says, "30
" and we asked him how that was and he said, "It's great! The best part about being 30 is re-discovering 20 year old women"

This happened to me though only worse
We were in the lodge on a shitty day and scanning channels.
People were trying to find eachother and we were messing with them confusing them you know telling them we were on the other part of the mountain,
I guess thy found each other, and they walked into the lodge- where we were.

I had just gotten on the lift at killy and I was swinging my skis back and forth and when I swung them back the tip got stuck in some snow and they flew off. I felt like a n00b and I was ready to ski down 1 ski, which isn't hard on a green but I didn't want to waste time at the beginning of the day, when a smiling instructor got off carrying my ski.

i once saw a gaper from the lift. it was awesome. he fell and was too fat to get up so ski patrol had to tie 2 sleds together to get him down.

i was at mt snow sunday, what ever that double is right next to the park, fucking really slow, anyways, im by myself i slide up to get on the lift, a snowboarder behind me gets too close to the lift, gets clipped and gets dragged by the lift and pulls himself onto the seat, while all of this is hapening i dive out of the way, pull myself back up and get ready to get on the chair...again...wrong, some joey is already sitting down on the lift coming behind me...i dive out of the way again. this may not seem that fun but boy did the lifty and i have a laugh at how dumb some gapers can be

I was standing next to a lift at the top  A snowboarder had clipped his other boot in so it was easier to get off the lift.  Little did he notice he had clipped in the the foot rest between his legs.  He had strapped himself to the lift.

The funny (or sad) part about this was that their kid had broken their leg.  They were getting ready to go to the hospital and they were ripping.
We were like uhhhhhhhh... and put our shit on and got the fuck out of there... up to the top at the tram house to do it again.

One time at Jay peak I was taking the t-bar in back of this noob who had taken like 6 tries just to ride the damn thing.  After he got going, he decided it would be fun to do slolom turns in the track.  i think he was having fun until he went on the wring side of the tower...
Yeah he didnt even realize it unlil the tee snapped back and hit him

I cant think of any other time ive laughed that hard.

had to take the chair that services the bunny hill to access the other part of the hill (blue mountain)  as my brother and i are going up i guess some snow falls off and hits a chinaman below.  the guy yells from below and he is pretty pissed.  he is already getting out of his bindings and walking up the part of the hill where it forks.  so as we are coming down the dude is standing right in the center where it forks, so i go one way and my bro goes the other as this guy is lunging at us.

Ive seen this happen before, same thing a little girl (probally 7 or8) fell  15 to 20 feet onto hard pack and only broke her collarbone

one time I was strollin through country boy at Breck and this kid rides up to the side of a jump about 30-35  feet...he keeps doin it all day so eventually some dude comes out and tells him just to go for it...This kid was about 13 years old but you could tell he was loaded because of all the nice gear  he had...so he drops in going WAY to slow...gets to the kicker goin bout 5mph and goes bout 10ft in the air then drops straight on to flat ground...funniest thing ever because the kid sat there crying after words saying that he didnt know "the gap was that big".... finally ski patrol had to come and get him and take him off the jump...

Later on those jumps my freind was goin for it and some texas gaper cuts right on top of the knuckle of the jump and stops...my freind didnt know he was there and about killed him...i was yellin at the guy but he didnt hear me... freind got in big fight with him afterwards...

Most hills here in norway have at least one of these lifts that looks like a T turned upside-down, you probably have them in the states too. Once i saw this dude bend his knees to gain some speed while going up, and then he stopped sideways. then when the lift caught up with him and started pulling again he just popped and pullet of a flatspin in the lift! There is a video of the same guy doing the same thing on freeskier.se.

i was up skiing at jay on Saturday, and we saw these people below us, with some ski patrol sleds.  Some 5 or so year old fell off the chair just before the end, but still like 25-30 feet up.  I guess the liftie at the top saw it, and stopped the chair.  The dad kicked off his skis and jumped off (I guess he thought he could help).  He ended up breaking his ankles, and of course the kid got wicked banged up way worse.

at my hill all the lifts have big piles of snow right after the start, and all the 4yearolds from ski school allways get their tips caught and faceplant of the chair.

and last year I was up at spirit mt. with some friends and we saw all these patrollers below the lift, turned out a guy had hit a tree w/o a helmet and died. not so funny.
