Whiteface Slides question??

Ok so im on the website, ive never actually been on these but i really want to hit them like badly so i got a few questions...
1. "For access to the Slides, the Whiteface Ski Patrol has created the following Rules:
Bronze – Slides will not open based on avalanche danger, lack of snow cover, or other operational considerations.
Silver – Slides will open but based on conditions, ski patrol will require avalanche precautions such as a beacon, shovel, and probe.
Gold – Slides are open with the stipulation that guests must be groups of two or more at ski patrol’s discretion."
does that mean i cant do them unless i got a beacon and a probe cuz i cant afford that shit and if you do need them can i rent them?
2. Would a pair of Pollards mounted atleast 2 back be enough to get through them? they are 166 should i have them mounted further back i havent mounted them yet so uhh yea get back to me on those thanks

well they are realy open on pow days, u dont NEED a becon unless its bronze or sliver, GOLD is GO
but the slides are alot harder than u think, its bascialy all ice so if u dont have razor edges heads up, its also a good idea to have a shovel and radio, but a becon is not needed, its a great idea tho

In order to get on the slides, there has to be ski patrollers by the enterance. and two+ feet of fresh powder.
you still have to hike for like 20 min to get to the top
(and i have to say that is one of the hardest parts). on the trail you have about 3.5 feet of ledge. if it caves in you will be taking an unexpected ride down.
and if you are planning to ski the slides this winter, beware, when people say that you can die on them, believe what they say. 3 people have died on "ice falls" in the past 10 years, or something like that.

The slides are basically a frozen waterfall. That's why they're almost never open. It has to be super cold for a few days to freeze the water, then it has to dump enought to ride. And snow doesn't stick to ice like it does to rocks, i dunno how that affects it, but they're super precautious about it.

it's nothing if you ski b/c out west but the ice is killer -- either you straightline or can hold edges eurostyle. reminds me the falls in KDOK trees on whistler or CBC on blackcomb. bring the beacon.

basically... if you know where to go, you can ski the slides after a mediocre dump of 1.5-2 feet, but they probably won't let you. Slide 1 is ALL ice waterfall, I saw a guy skiing them from the top (he hiked the backside) and he lost it and slid about 50 feet on his side on the ice... when the wind is blowing at the summit its hard to gage whether there is 3 feet of stable snow, 3 feet of unstable or 6 inches of shit on the slides, thats why you usually wait for ski patrol to open them... its just how the wind is blowing, slide 3 and 4 can probably be skied more, but getting there would be difficult as you have to cross ice(I think) and then at the bottom where it bottlenecks it can be icy too... also as some people have said, not all ice is stable either, I'd hate to have a slab of solid ice let go on me...
