Well I just watched Matt Walker's video of him doing a nasty 270 lip slide to pretzel 270 out and I got to thinking. Isn't it not a lip slide because he gets on the rail on the left and slides with his left foot in front? Or does it depend on which way his body is spinning? This is also shown in that rail jam where the first place guy did a lip slide 270 on.
its hard to explain... like if you come up to a rail and aproch from the right side you will land with your left foot forward.. for a 270 on, if you approch from the right side you spin to the right and then you would land right foot forward. im pretty sure thats how it is... but before its certain someone should second this idea. this is what i my take on the subject it.
A lipslide is when the back of your ski goes over the rail first. If you're going forward when your tails go over first or if you're going backwards it's when your tips go over first.
its simple...4 example, hes coming to the left of the rail....its a lipslide if he spins to the left, spins a 270 and lands left foot first ....its a lip cuz his tails go over the rail so do his noses and he has to bring them back ..wtv its fuckin hard id never try but it has to be the sickest rail trick
it's kinda like in snowboarding how front boards and back lips work. it's where the rail is in relation to your body's rotation. you approach a rail on the left side, and step on right foot forward it's a lip slide. you approach a rail on the left side and spin leftside 270, away from the rail, and land left foot forward on the rail, it's a 270 lip. like someone said, the tails go over the rail first, so it's a lip slide.
And the person quoting it did it in a rail jam like 2 weeks ago. But seriously, Brent's onto that ledge a few years ago was so sick. And Coscos at Boreal was sick as well. I envy people who do lip 2 on.
Technically a lipslide is whenever your tail, back trucks, or whatever is in back goes over the rail first. So technically a normal one would be a lipslide, but since this is skiing I would call Matt's a lipslide because of the original approach and direction of the spin.
i think it makes lots of sense, for rails. think about it. just the same as snowboarders on jumps, fs is when they are facing forward at 90 degrees. on a rail for skiers fs would be when you are facing the rail at 90 degrees, etc etc. i guess its not a perfect analogy, but i think it works.
