So I just read Powder's all female issue--Powder Girl--cover to cover. It is great. The pictures are phenominal, and the Grete Eliasson profile shows exactly what makes her so good. The articles are aimed directly at female skiers: ie Jessica Sobolowski's ACL article. More magazines need to come out with stuff like this. Nice work, Powder!
I thought it was a cool idea, but they should just integrate it, I got in trouble for ripping the package open and Hastings and had to buy it and I was basically dun reading it. it sucked.
I agree. It should all be integrated as it's all one sport. But since that's clearly not happening (a few pages at most go to women's side of the sport in any regular issue) this is the next best thing.
I think that is partially the girls fault* partially that is, they should push it a bit harder mebbe? And they need people to rep them. I know a girl that drops 40 footers like shes makin her breakfast and no one even knows who she is. Just a local shredder. They just need photographers that are interested and writers to write stories bout them/ Thats where other girls need to come in.
But isn't that her fault for not going after recognition? There are plenty of guys who rip just as hard a pros do who are not the ones with shots in mags because no one knows them, too.
If you look at the photographers who took the shots of these women, they're the same ones getting the shots of the guys.
Exactly- Thats why there are no girls in mags, they don't go as big. But when it comes to photography size isn't that big a problem....that sounds weird.....but it isn't truthfully I mean if more girls got in the industry started shooting and reppin themselves, they would be around more. But they don't.
The lack of repping one's self is not most of the problem, though. There are women like Lindsey McIntire who have repped the crap out of themselves. I see it more that photogs and writers don't think they can get that ep;ic shot or story, and I think that Powder Girl proves that entirely wrong.
