Sir Francis Bacon , pros and cons?

hey, im thinking about buying the line sir francis bacon skis, and i have heard both good and bad things on them. so does anybody ride the elizabeths or just know about what terrain besides powder/BC it will ride good on? And just the goods and bads.

Right, but he asked if anyone had ridden elizabeths.

In the meantime, anyone ski the 4frnt VCT's? i'm wondering what those are like compared to the elizabeths/bacons.

wow that funny i demoed them in utah and they are a kick as ski can handle it everywhere great in the pow but great all-mtn if i lived out west or anywhere but the east i would have bought these skis

i just bought the prophet 130s and did a lot of research before buying and I always read that line elizabeths, bacons, and even the 130s do well all-mountain. They may be really fat, but they still ride well and you can easily maneuver them. The only issue is the swing weight for obvious reasons. As for the bacons, they are essentially longer lizzies and a little wider.

elizebeths and sfbs are pretty soft for powder skis since they're backcountry freestyle skis.

for elizabeth at least:

pros:

-awesome in UNTRACKED powder, especially in the trees.
-very ollie-able for park kids.
-unreal switch.
-totally different feeling than any other ski out there.

cons:

-short radius means you pretty much have to be turning them ALL the time.
-if you're used to faster skis, these ones are sloooowwwww. kickers you normally speed check twice for need to be skated, tucked, and straightlined.
-struggle in choppy snow
-finding brakes can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

this is just my personal review, i'm 6'1" 175 lbs for reference, and i'm not even a super-aggressive skier.


if ever there was a perfect ski for doing a fresh powder tree run slopestyle with multiple log slides, small drops, dope tree lines, and windlips, it would be the elizabeth. once you get them into tracked-out stuff, they are definitely not the best.

my bud should be getting his bacon's from jibij by the end of the week, he's going up on sunday, I'll let you know what he thinks of 'em. I think they are gonna be great.

bacons are definatly not too short for anyone. they are designed to be shorter than normal. if your over 160 or so bacons would be perfect. and unless your like 220lbs i dont think they could be too short

I'm 6'2 and 165. I like long, soft skis. If they made them in a 192 and a 182 I would pick them up in both sizes and ski one in the park and one for the mountain.

When I am on the mountain because am tall and I push around the tips too much and skis get squirelly if they are under 190.

bacons aren't normal skis though they're mini snowboards so they aren't supposed to be as long as a normal ski.

What everyone said, they are different skis...I had a chance to ride the Bacon last year, and it was really fun, I just could NOT get used to the HUGE ASS butter zone. THE gotama is a great ski, but I worry about the edges (Volkl using more traditional edges vs line using THICK-ASS edges)...to solve your problem, get a pair of Line Prophet 100's! Perfect ,mix of the two skis...I ride the 186, and I use them everywhere from cliffs, to pow, to rails, to park. The only time I am a lil sketchy on them is in the pipe, as I prefer a softer ski (but, that is why I have a 3 year old pair of Fugatives to beat on...)...

Prophet 100 is your best combo ski out there....ride them, and see what I mean

I've got lizzies but haven't got to try them out yet basically the bacon is gonna more geared towards backcountry and are not gonna be as good all mountain as the lizzies. both skis are backcountry skis but the lizzies can be skied more all mountain while u shouldn't venture into the park with bacon. A bunch of the jibij rider ride the lizzies in the park and there supposed to be great everyhwere. So if you want a better backcountry ski go with the bacon if u want a better all over ski go with the lizzies. And don't listen to people that say they're too big for the skis they only made one size of each model for a reason

Im also very interested in the sir francis bacons bt also worried about durability as im fairly agressive/destructive on skis. My sister has a pair of line shadows and after about 16 days of skiing the edge started delam from the top but only marginally besides this though they have been fine. People with prophets how durable have they been??

how are they in crud or choppy pow because its not like everyrun is untracked snow.. i think ill get the maidens but i do want something light to hike with skier mag said that the maidens were light but ive heard there heavy?

Well, my other post didn't work. I'll try it again

The lizzies were meant to be pollard's park ski. The Prophets were meant to be Pollard's mountain ski. The Bacons are in between, for BC booters and smaller lines. That's the reason they are in different lengths, because those are the length he wants to ski in different conditions. 172 (or whatever the lizzies are) are NOT the right size for everyone.

For everyone trying to tell me that noone needs bigger than 182, shove it up your ass. That is too short for me for a mountain/powder ski. FOR ME.... get it? Personal preference! what a concept! If they made them in 182 and 192, I would buy a pair of each, and ski the longer on the mountain and the shorter center mounted in the park. That's because that's what would work for me. There it is again! personal preference!!!

Line did have some quality issues last year. This was due to moving their production to a new factory ina new country.. with new workers.. Obviously. Now they are set.. and if i'm not mistaken... they were made in the K2 factory. So quality this year is gonna be stepped up a lot! Like line 2 years ago.. or better. And if you do mess them up.. its called warranty.

Just don't be using a pair of lizzes or bacons for urban.. otherwise they'll be fine.

And hopefully, I'll have my pair by this weekend.. so I'll post my thoughts after I ski them. :) can't wait.

This years lines were made in a K2 factory.

When I got my first set of new 05/06 prophets, which were in god awful shape, there was a sticker on them that said "made in China". I quickly returned these to Evogear at which time they sent me another pair which were in perfect condition and had a sticker that said "made in Canada.
I think there were problems with some of the skis that were made in the china.

I have the Lizzies...I would describe them as a super fun all mtn ski that you can take everywhere. HOWEVER, if you're wanting to seriously charge steep backcountry lines, crud or steeps I would go with the Prophet instead. The Lizzies are very soft and super turny. So turny, in fact, that I can carve slalom turns on them on hardpack with hardly any effort. They're a great ski for crusing around the mountain, skiing some park, pow and backcountry booters, and are suprisingly good on hardpack, but I wouldn't want to push them too hard on serious terrain. They're simply not designed for that.

I guess the new topsheet must be massless, because they remained unchanged from last year.

I'm really disappointed with Line. Amazing skis, but come on! Ship the product already, the seasons half over (for us West Coast people anyways... sorry East!)

Alright i just got lizzies and like everyone says it is such a different ski than anything else on the market. They turn soo easy and hold an edge so well. I think they excel alot more on groom than powder. In powder i dont really like how much they want to turn and that there isnt that much nose. That would obviously be different on bacons. But the wierd thing that i noticed about bacons is the tip and tail. The widest part of the ski is at least 10 cm before the running surface ends. It looks like the would have about the same amount of effective edge as the lizzies. And also i thought bacons felt a little stiffer when i hand flexed them. Hope that helps. And in my opinion if i bought these i would also own another ski for charging

it's funny you say that, line has the slowest bases on the market. They are thicker, but thicker bad bases are still slow... And they don't hold wax well. maybe now that k2 owns them things will change. Armada makes double thick bases that are fast, why can't line?

lizzies aren't too soft. I've only skied about 10 runs on them this year and it was on like ice and bumps which are not ideal conditions. They defiently take some getting used to and i was sliding a lot more on the ice than i did with my ar5s. they're really fun to ski, but until i ski in decent conditions with them, i don't really know what to say

I've had like 3 powder days on my bacons over the break and they are awesome. they're the most fun powder ski i've ever been on and they're really stable and able to plow through things. they have lots of pop in powder and turn like its nothing. these skis are so much fun to jib powder with and try 180s off things and butters. cliffs and drops are also a breeze for these.

i put deadbolts on mine because i heard the same thing. looks and rossis have narrow bolt patterns, so in a pretty soft ski that could rip out. the deadbolts have a pretty wide bolt pattern and i really like them. They're sort of heavy though but nothing too bad. my bacons with deadbolts are lighter than my dad's new 175 guns with the salomon new z12s or whatever.

A local shot has them in, they look sick as fuck, too bad I already bought the goats. but they are pretty sexy, and the graphic is sick too. They seem fairly soft. I havent ridden them yet, but I imagine they would be pretty f'n kickass.

i don't really like the green and orange on the real life pics. in my opinion, it would look better if they were toned more like the computer generated art. the bases are real nice though. still looks like a sick sick ski.
