Replying to Mini Poles For Backcountry Jibbing?

I was watching tanner's segment in frontline for like the 50th time and i noticed all his backcountry booter and rail stuff he uses poles that are cut of like half length and they dont even have baskets on them, they are little sticks. you can see it best when they slow down his railside to 450(mabye 630 i forgot) anybody know why? and if you have the movie watch it so i can make sure im not crazy.
