4FRNT Deadbolt vs. Look PX vs. Salomon 914/916 Lab

As the title suggests, I want to hear opinions on these bindings, I was sure I wanted the FKS, but now I'm considering other options due to the tight screw pattern and possibility of ripping them out. I will say that I've always hated the Salomon S -series, 810, 912, any that I've tried sucked, the wings on the toe piece come loose and in general they piss me off, so someone change my mind, are the 914 and 916 Lab plagued by the same problems as the lower models? I'm also considering the Look PX series, I really don't know if they make a PX14, haven't looked into it, but if they do that would be the one I would get, I always loved my old Pivots, but again, pretty tight screw pattern. So tell me what you think, cause right now I'm looking at some Deadbolt 614's, and I'm sure they are a solid binding, I've only heard good things about them, but I want thoughts before I drop my change. They are going on Prophet 130's if it makes a difference. Thanks.

s916s or s914 labs.
Deadbolts are ok.....but for a similar price you could get s916s. The s914s labs are fine too, not quite as much metal as the s916s but they dont have the toe wing issues that the normal sallys do.
If you are getting looks.....dont get the Px. Just stick with the P18/FKS.

^just listen to that, no need for further discussion. And btw, there are like a gazillion threads on this right now dude. So go read through those and it should answer your question pretty well.

I just put some deadbolt 816's on my prophet 130's. I got them from jibij and josh said they are a solid binding and that he hadn't heard anything negative about them. The 130's with deadbolts is sick and still pretty light.

If you are intersted in the p-series(axial2) then check out the scratch 140ti. Great solid binding with a wider screw pattern that holds you to your skis very well. Or, just go with what iggyskier said and get some 916's. Im pumped to ride mine.

If you're putting them on prophet 130s, I'd toss out the looks/rossi's right away. Its difficult to get brakes wide enough for 130mm. 4frnt makes a 130mm brake, so its really easy there, and the deadbolt is a supposed to be a good binding. Personally I'd go with the 916 just cause its got more metal and I've had a good experience with mine. Drawbacks are weight (something like an extra pound each for the 916s) and brakes go to 115mm, then you have to bend them.

s916s weigh about 1 pound more per pair than P18.
Honestly...I like heavy bindings though. I feel they give you better control of the ski.
Funny little tidbit.....s916s are still 1.5 pounds lighter than the old Line Bindings were!
serious...s916s, why settle for anything but the best?

Sorry guys, I was visiting my grandparents and they don't even know how the hell to work a computer, much less own one.
I'm pretty much decided on the 916, unless I get a good deal on some Deadbolts, but I don't think I need a 16 din, I'm only like 160lbs and ususally ride with my bindings set around 8-9, but I might crank them a bit for BC skiing, however I want the all metal heel-piece if I get the Salomons, so how hard is it to find a 914 spring for those bindings and swap them out?

awwww comeon i know you can change your mind and get some quality deadbolts and not those hunk of shit salomon's. solomons and looks heelpeice's break and tend to have premature release spring the extra cheddar for the deadbolts and dont be cheap!!!

I was actually looking at spending a little extra on the 916 Labs, because they are all-metal in both the toe and heel peices, how much of the Deadbolts toe and heel pieces are metal?

I have some brand new 614's I am considering getting rid of for a deal, or trade for some other binding if you are interested. They are last years, all black with army green print.

they use about 85% steel and if anything every happens to the heelpiece you can just replace the heelpiece instead of buying a new binding

fuck salomon bindings. i've had two pairs break on me, and pull out of my skis. my brother's 916's or 914's can't remember wich, broke as well. Salomon bindings are shit, in my opinion. I am probably gonna go with either Looks or Deadbolts on my 4frnts this year. way too many bad experiences with salmon for me to even consider them.

hey man, im about 6'2 and 150, so about the same size for you and have ridden all the bindings youre talking about, i would reccomend going with the fks 155, i have 2 pairs of those bindings now, plus a pair of 185's and i love them. they relese when there supposed to and there realy bomb proof. ive never seen someone rip that heel pattern out of a ski, so i think your fears there are for no reason. i will say also that most of the big name pros out there prefer the fks binding. as far as the salomon binding goes, there alright, my ski tech dan in breck go a pair og 916 labs for this year, and he is realy stoked on them. the weights are pretty much exactly the same, the toe on the 916 weighs more, and the heel weigs lett than the fks. i use to have the 912 ti gun on my ant's but switched over to the fks cause i had a lot of pre relese problems skiing big lines with the din at 11. i realydont like the 4frnt binding though, i have a few friends who race for vist, who make the 4frnt binding and they realy dont like them. but again, i have not riden them so dont hold me to that. feel free to ask if you have any more questions! :)

Right now I'm pretty much set on Look/Rossi binders. Only question is between the FKS and the regular pivoting axial style. The axials can be had alot cheaper, and have the toepiece that releases vertically, so those are 2 plus marks, I think...what are the differences between the axial heelpiece and the oldschool turntable FKS style heelpiece? Pros and Cons of each?

I highly doubt they were s916s if they broke. That is extremely hard to do with s916s....
s914s, on the other hand, and pieces of shit.
Seriously....you kids are assuming that just cause the s912/s914s are total piece of shit that the s916s are as well.
They are completely different bindings. I will never again ski on a s914....but I use only s916s. They are no question the best binding available for those who need some serious clamps.

Anyone? I also am thinking I'd like to get the Axials cause of the lifter, those should make it easier to get more edge use on the ski.

A quick bump and another question, is it worth it to spend the extra $45 on wide brakes for the pivots, and then still have to bend them, will they stop the ski in powder? Or should I just get some of those coiled stretchy board leashes?
