Moving to canada? has anyone from the US done it?

so, i have been toying with the idea of moving to canada. Not in the near future, i need to get a degree of some sort first... or should I?
whats the job market in canada like? would it be easy to make the move?
i am thinking graphic design of some sort. i worked for a local media company doing design work for a year, so i have some experience in the field...
has anyone on NS made the move?
would you reccommend it if so?

Alberta (Home of Lake louise, Sunshine, Marmot, and close to Fernie, Kickinghorse, and Red mountain and so on) Has a HUGE economy boom if you want to Make over 95K STARTING become an operator for a Refinery which has shift work so you get four days on four off (perfect for skiing). Or if you want to become a nurse Alberta is the place to do it. Or a fire fighter, everywhere around here is having huge hirings in the next two or three years. if you come here with no experience and no training you can get a job being a carpenter just by walking on site, the boom is crazy and workers are desperatly needed. I came from Louisanna a while ago and I would never dream of living anywhere other then Western Canada! Oh and you do NOT have to be bilingual at all.

canada is one big ghetto, plus $1 american dollar is worth $5 canadian, and we dont have an army, and there are no hot chicks, and beer is very very expensive, and the drinking age is 25.

I was thinking of making the move for a while, but then I remembered taxes and the fact that Jackson Hole is in the states. But aside from that, I like Canada much more than I like the U.S.

I am going to school right now to be a graphic designer. I got a statistic book handed out to me at school, about locking down a job. one of the stats is that 89% of all graphic design jobs in north america are in the states. Not saying you can't get a job in Canada, its not hard, but the opportunity is much greater in the states. If you want a job in the oil and gas industry. come to alberta. if you want a job at tim hortons but want $15/hour come to alberta. Calgary is in desperate need for people right now.

holy shit guy, get out of the country right now. Canada is the best country in the world to live in right now skiing wise and career wise. There is a job shortage across the country right now so finding a job and a good paycheck is super easy. And depending where you live in Canada some of the skiing is superbe. If you don't want to listen to french people don't go to quebec but in alberta there are tons of resorts mentioned above as well a couple hour drive to some in BC. Me being a skier i wouldn't want to live in any other country right now, and besides you live in ontario with skiing that isn't that great and way to overpopulated. Leave.

yah i spend my summer (4 months) in Alberta and daamnn kids my age were racking in so much dough i started working construction out there and my boss was going to pay me $25 bucks an hour just to stay out there and keep working for him...so tempting unfortunetly i decided to go back to school we will see if it apays off...neways if your in need of work and want to be close to some of the sickest resorts in North America move to Alberta

There is an insane job market in Alberta especially if you are looking for something labour related. You can just walk into a place and pick your starting wage (within reason). Also lots of restraunts and fast food joints have to close early cuz they can't find workers. If you want a job Alberta is the place to be right now

And no, you don't have to be bilingual, I can't speak much french at all. If you want to work in graphic design, though, there aren't as many small companies around here so if you actually want to make money at it you have to be GOOD.

you are one big idiot. 1$ canadian is actually almost equal to 1$ american now... its getting there... we have an army, actually a pretty good one, but we dont have fund them enough to get them better equipment and shit... plus we have about 1 tenth the population of the U.S. There are TONNES of hot chicks, more than the U.S i'd have to say... less fat ones. Beer is pretty cheap, dont know what your talking about. and drinking age 19 and 18 in quebec.
but besides that stay in the U.S you have california, colorado, utah, florida etc. we have bc. ahaha

i knew people were gunna say stay in the us, it sucks here, but i am surprised at how many people gave me legit info.
i will continue thinking about it, graphic design doesnt mean i have to be working for an agency, i was thinking of trying to get a job with a newspaper.

Fine, Alberta does have a great job market, but Alberta, except for the rockies, SUCKS ASS! Really, Calgary is a lame town, and the rest is prairies. If you're in for the money, then work between the rockies and calgary, but no further away because then it's far from skiing, and the climate sucks. The climate sucks as a whole in Alberta, because it's so damn dry. And working on oil fields is around 30bucks/hour, you just have to know that it's a fucking ridiculously tough job, long hours, there are lots of accidents, there's nothing to do around your workplace, so a lot of the workers are drug addicts or alcoholics. Then you can move to BC, but that's a lot more money...

yeah alberta is full of jobs right now.
But myself I would be afraid to base my entire life career around oil and gas. This industry cant last for ever.And I've heard many rumours that the oil and gas industry has peaked (atleast in my town.)
I live in a town in northern BC with tons of rigs, and its pretty crazy seeing kids my age 18-19 driving around 60,000 dollar trucks and talking about how much coin they make. Its insane how the oil and gas has changed where I live, theres like a hotel being built every week.
But that shit aint easy and its dangerous.
And part of the reason why they make so much money isnt cause the wages are that insane, its because they work like 6 13 hours shifts a week, I personally couldnt handle that.
