^1400 foot peak

^ 14,000ft.... defenitaly dont do it alone, go with experienced mountaineers. But it all depends on the peak. there are some that have easy access and dont require much preparation and others that only experienced mountaineers can handle. its not really being able to ski it safetly its about getting there safetly

thats what i figured. im trying to get a group together to go do it and im looking for someone whos done it before to go with us

yeah forgot a zero we only have the 1400s here in the east

go for it just be prepared to be beat as fuk at the end of the day, and go with someone who has done the specific peak before.

mt whitney... skied the moutaneers route for 6000vert...if the snowpack was better we could have dropped nearly 10K into the valley

Each different peak has its own set of challenges, some are easy, others you need serious experience to climb and ski.

Two of the best, which have a very simple approach and straightforward lines are Gray's(Grey's?) and Torries Peaks. The trailhead is above Bakerville, off of I-70, before Loveland ski area. You can camp out at the trailhead (best to go in late April or early May) to ensure an early start. The classic line up there is something called Dead Dog Coulior, and it goes right off the top of Torries. It's easy to scope from the hike in. (which is pretty much a highway due to the proximity of these mountains to Denver)

One word of warning: snow conditions are crucial. Go to early in the day and it will be bulletproof, slide for life stuff. Too late in the day and the potential for massive wet avalanches exists. Get to the top, chill and wait for the snow to corn up. Be off the mountain by 1-2:00 pm. Don't go in the middle of winter when the avi danger spikes through the roof.

I think Lou Dawson (the first guy to ski all 14ers) has a guidebook called "Skiing the 14ers" It's worth checking out if you don't do this kind of thing often.

i considered it a few years ago and right before me and my friends went, a teacher from my school named jeff upendall got killed on quandry, there were several things that could prevented it from happening, but needless to say the next week me and my friends were asked not to do it by the administrators so we didnt. i think its very possible and would be wicked fun. be safe, wear beacons, make shure someone knows where youre going, and hike teathered together. the main reason why that guy died because his friend was almost 1000 feet above him. good luck man!

thats a way sick Idea man, there was a guy who tried to ski all of them in a season and ended up getting about 25 I think though. I would HIGHLY reccomend the backside of mt. yale its absolutely epic with tons of great steeps and some nice drops and shoots it would be a greeat run man, heiron would be kewl too and its fairly easy access.
