Top Athletes Take Home The Cash At Boreal Mountain Resort’s 2nd Annual Jibassic Pro Rail Invitational
(Donner Summit, CA) Pro and top amateur snowboarders and skiers were unstoppable during the 2nd Annual Jibassic Pro Rail Invitational at Boreal Mountain Resort Saturday night. A 30-step staircase with two down-boxes, one down-rail, and one down-flat-down box complete with two banister rails made for a an amazing precedent-setting urban feature competition. With the evening’s mild temps, cloudless sky, and the help of a raging bonfire, the crowd was in the mood for watching top talent in what has proven to be one of the most creative and unique urban rail competitions.
It all came down to the competitors who had the best combination of skill, dialed tricks, and all-out love for pleasing the crowd. Top skier of the night, Steven Stepp, swept the division with a lip-slide to pretzel-out, walking with the winner-take-all division purse.
Amateur snowboarder John Foy surprised everyone by taking home the gold in the men’s snowboard division. Earning one of four amateur spots to compete against pros like Robbie Sell, Curtis Woodman, Jake Devine, and Brett Butcher in the final heat, Foy blew the judges away and garnered a hell-yeah nod from the pros with a back-lip to back 270-out. Just as impressive was the top women’s snowboard division winner, Desiree Melancon, who won all judging points with a lip-slide to fakey.
Even with the competition as the highlight of the evening, the scene at Boreal took on the air of an outdoor pre-season trade show and “get-stoked-for-winter” party. 30 reps set up booths, trailers, and tents surrounding the landing of the staircase feature to fire up the crowd with swag, stickers, and a look at 2006/2007 product lines. Standard Films kicked off the night with its 2006/2007 movie, Draw The Line on the 40-foot by 60-foot inflatable outdoor screen. DJ Matt Connelly of Helly Hansen was master of the turntable throughout the entire evening’s festivities.
Boreal Mountain Resort and the entire Jibassic Park crew give a big thanks to event partners Planet Earth and Liberty Skis. The two independently-owned companies go out of their way to support the entire field of snowboarding and skiing, and have made it a trademark of their brands to listen to their customers in order to create top of the line product.
