I just bought the rampages the other day and i was wondering your opinion on the boot. So far the only bad part about it is that it might not be stiff enough for deep powder. I tried fooling around with the inserts to make it stiffer but got confused. Anyone who has this boot have any suggestions and anyone have any pros or cons for this boot?
aah, I just got them too. They were a little too narrow but I just got them back from the shop today and they pushed the sides out like an inch and a half. Now they are the best boot I've ever worn. I think the stiffness is perfect for park and all mountain riding. If you think its too soft, then you should maybe get a booster strap or buy a tongue insert or something. Ask your local shop guy and see what they can do, they can usually make any boot fit work out.
I was cautious about using a soft boot last year when I got my pair of rampages. I had used stiff/race style boot for a long time, I use to think that was the only way to ski, I skied alot of bumps back in the day and....well whatever I am getting lost here. All in all try the boot first then make adjustments, I think you will be very pleased, I have found that the boot is great in powder, it will be an adjustment but the comfort and function of a this boot will speak for itself. atleast it did for me.
I got mine the other day.. and larry (if you're from CO) did wonders with them. Custom cork footbeds.. the works. They are sooo comfy. Can't wait to get out and see how they feel.
If I did want to make the boots a bit more stiff am i better off putting in the 8mm wedge inserts in the back outside of the boot or inserting the 4mm flex insert in the inside back of the boot? Cause it seems that the one put in the back outside is for upright stance and the other is for flex but i am unsure.
I was having the same problem figuring it out, but I think I eventually sorted it out.
There's essentially 5 settings of stiffness.
Here they are as I understand it from softest to stiffest:
1) No plug/shim
2) 8mm in the bottom slot
3) 8mm in the top slot
4) 4mm in the bottom slot
5) 4mm in the top slot
I had serious problems getting the liner back in when trying to use setting 4. I actually snapped the tab off the plug/shim. I need to get another set from the shop.
yeah, actually, plake gave my shop a clinic on the boots,he was one of the head designers of the boot (the krypton pro) but the rampage is their freeride boot, the tounges are fully interchangable, if you wanted them stiffer you could buy the stiff tounge off of a krypton pro and roll with that, they are sweet ass boots
