MOVEMENT SKIS....sick new company

They're really, really not a new company.

yeah, been around for awhile now.

but I think this is their first year distributing in N. America

yeah they have been in switzerland for awhile and been dist. throughout europe but as far as west coast north amer. they are still fairly new, they are a good company and are definitly putting out some quality skis

no doubt they are sick. they have however been sick for many many years over here...

A shop in Colorado that I've worked at for the past couple years is going to sell Movement this winter. We got a quiver to try out late last year, and I have to say that I found those skis pretty gimmicky. About a dozen people tried out the line and only one person found them to be a good ski.
DO NOT BUY THOSE THINGS unless you ride them first. They also have a pretty ugly binding interface going on...I wish the store I used to work for had decided against carrying those things.

you are full of shit man. the gladiator is the best all mountain mid fat twin i've ever ridden, barr none. the goliath is burly as fuck for big mountain ripping. in fact, they're all sick. as for 'only one person found them to be A good ski'... theres like 15 skis in their lineup- all fucking different! if you wanted a quiver full of noodles, you'd be disappointed for sure. if you're a bona fide ripper, you'll fucking love them. i'm sure if they had armada or ninthward written all over them, or had graphics of gangbangers doing a drive-by, you be saying they were the greatest skis ever. enough hating on them because its an innovative hardcore manufacturer.

Everyone's personal preference is different, you just so happen to find them to be good skis. Guess what? He stated the FACT "one of everyone that tested them (don't remember the number) liked them". You stated the OPINION that you think they are great, and it's Your OPINION that he would like them more if they were some other brand. guess what??? there are a lot of people in the world (besides you) that actually buy skis based on whether they like how they ski (Might be hard to believe, becuase you OBVIOUSLY have your head shoved up your ass).

ok, fair enough i went off on one back there, i'll hold my hand up for that. sorry! Its just i don't like people making sweeping statements or telling people not to buy something because they didn't like it. i was just telling the other side of the story so the skis get a fair trial.

Guess I didn't explain my angle very clearly also.
When the ski shop was considering Movement skis, they sent us 7 different skis...and we tried them all.
I never meant to express that Movement sucks or anything, as far as I know the whole ski world might love them. In our small test at the shop, with a handful of strong skiers (that have skied a ton of different skis), that sampling of Movement skis did not impress our group that much.
Prior to my post, all the talk on this thread was just incredible rave for Movement. I just wanted to express the devil's advocate point of view.
In my opinion if you like 'em...ride 'em.

I did notice that Rastafarider rides on Seth Pistols 179 from his bio.
Is that still true my man?
If so...how do you describe that ski, in your opinion: Noodly or Burly??

yeah i had never heard of movement prior to last season, and alot of the people we have sold them to and alot of the guys at the shop liked them, i was just seeing what others thought

Oh yeah, I ride the 179 Seth (07) not the pistol. This is what I ride as my standard ski for dabbling in everything (park, piste, bc booters, playing around off piste etc). I wouldn't say its super-burly: for charging big stuff I use the Amplid Royal teddy which is a monstrous beast! I would say the Seth is about a 7/10 on the burlyometer (0 being a K2 Fujative Super-Noodle; 10 being B-Squad, Supermojo, LP XXL crazy burlyness). I prefer it for its versatility rather than as a big mountain ski. Hope this satifies your curiosity...

alrite mate, how would you rate the amplid royal teddy?? preferably as opposed to the volkl gotama if possible, but im wanting to get one for european skiing holidays for powder, and they will be needed for onpiste about 1/4 of the time? ps they will be accompnaying my line anthems, which i use for dry slope etc. aswell

The graphics remind me of those shirts that "gothic" people wear.  I'm not a huge fan.

This is a review a did of the Royal Teddy a while back.

Ya, I tested the Amplid Royal Teddy 183 for 2 days this season. I am 5 10, weight about 12 stone and am a strong all mountain skier. Anyway, its like this...

Day 1:
About 6-7 inches fresh powder. Skied mostly gs style snappy medium speed turns on open faces pitch 36-42 degrees. Here this ski was ideal. Decent sidecut meant it carves smoothly in the pow but when I opened the turns a little, the ski is still very stable at higher speeds. Some lines included small drops of less than 20 feet and again it performed admirably.

Day 2: Did some trees and as the ski is fairly light i found it nimble in the tight spots. Then did some mini golf lines in less good conditions. Again, the ski performed superbly and I was well in control on the steep and heavy snow. In the afternoon, we built a BC kicker. Kinda medium sized windlip stepdown. Was in the shade so accumulated powder was about 10inches. I spun 3s easily enough- good swing weight for a big ski. What I was really impressed by was how I was able to stomp 180s- something I normally stuggle to do in more than about 8 inches of pow.

Overall, I fell in love with his ski. I found it very similar in performance to the Gotama (almost identical dimensions). It is stable at speed yet nimble in the tight stuff. I would say its better than the Gotama for BC freestyle. When I took it on piste back to the lift it seemed ok and even a couple of laps throught the park worked fine. Too fat and off piste orientated for a 1 ski quiver, but as I have a park ski for park, pipe and piste I will definately buy the Royal teddy next season in the 183 for big days and BC freestyle sessions... Loved it!


I ended up buying it in a 191 because the tip and tail are really big, so it skis a bit shorter. Either the Gotama or Royal Teddy would be perfect for your big ski. Like I said, the two are very similar performance-wise. The RT is better imo if you like a bit of bc freestyle, but the gotama would be better on piste. Take your pick, either would be ideal for ya!

yea ive heard of faction skis, hard to get in the states...suposedly pretty nice skis
