The ultimate controversy

There are several things that have changed in the past few years of skiing that really irritate me, and let's see how many others...

1) Urban skiing. Skiing belongs in the mountains, get back on your skateboards or rollerblades.

2) The word "steeze." What the fuck? - enough said

3) Bandannas? Are skiers trying to become gangsters or am I missing something entirely here?

4) What do poles have to do with rails? and what good do your goggles serve when you are hitting your homemade rail in august?

This could go on and on, it seems to me that skiing has become more of a fashion show than anything else. Do any of you ski for fun anymore or are you trying to be the most badass on two planks, when you leave the glock at home?

All the young kids are doing this now.
Urban really does annoy me, it just ruins your skis.
Skiing is for during the winter except in the southern hemisphere.

1. Urban skiing is sick, I admit that I feel its being taken too far when they transport snow to places where snow never falls but if there is snow around the rail you're hitting its all good.

2. Steez is slang for style with ease and this can apply directly to skiing.

3. Bandanas are good for covering one's face when it is snowing or if someone does not want to burn their face in the sun. If it adds style points, so be it, its better than wearing those gaper face covering accessories. I personally just like wearing one around my neck so my neck is covered without having to zip my jacket up all the way.

4. 1st point, Poles have to do with rails because many people are used to having poles for balance purposes. 2nd point, I agree with you completely, but I suppose some people just get so stoked they like to throw all their shit on so its like winter again.

As far as it being a fashion show its just like quebec said, whatever floats your boat. If you want to rock used 2002 mismatched bonfire gear be my guest, more power to you. I personally like to dress in a good outfit because while I'm doing a rail or hitting a booter I know I look that much better doing it. Also if I get filmed or have pictures taken I like the to have the added style that comes with wearing sick gear. It's personal preference.

I agree with rails having natural snow, but when it's trucked in and you are landing on a spot of snow a foot squared, it kinda ruins the whole skiing aspect. It just seems like that whole part of skiing is getting too much respect and attention, way more than it deserves. There are so many park skiers that still can't buy a turn out of the park, it's a disappointing truth to our sport.

it's also a part of skiing, and people ski rails.

goggs in august are fun, like little fruity girls dressing up and having pretend weddings because they're excited for the future. these fruity little boys are just excited for november.

bandanas are completely practical when used around the face in a blizzard, or out of the pocket in the park, for thugitidity

urban rails are sooooo dank how can you hate they are possibly the hardest things to ever get done in skinig. gotta steal some snow, build a drop in, set it all up and then you have the bust factor. they are crazy.
and steeze i dont really use that i just say gangsta so you are right about that word its just weird.
and bandanas just make you look more G and plus if you gotta take someone out know one will know its u.

who the fuck are you to say what skiing should be philly-j. some people like to hit urban rails in saummer cuz theirs no snow, and why the fuck wouldnt u have poles, all that really matters is that u have fun. dont critisize n hate on people cuz your perspective on skiing is different from theirs just have fun n get along.

i wear a bandana under my helmet cos ive got long hair and the helmet alone doesnt keep it out of my face.
i use poles on rails, as has been said, for balance and propulsion.
i ride urban cos my hills an hour out of town and im not driving up there every night after work.

If your trying to make a point about little wigger gangstas trying to act tuff, ill pay it, but dont hate on generalisations - not all who wear a bandana and ride urban wana talk like tanner.

SOme urban things are sick , others are gay like if your gonan do a bomb drop it has to be over 10 feet , 2nd the goggles in the summer thing is gay, 3rd the bandana over the face soo gay I was at the Armada party after the orage masters in mammoth in may and some kid was there and its 1 am and he got a fukin rag over his face are you that ugly you need to hide from the world?

1) yeah, progression sucks.

2) Style and ease, sit down and shut up.

3) They keep the wind off your face, so you dont get windburn or have to tuck your face into your jacket every 2 seocnds.

4) Poles help you keep balance and gain speed onto the rail. Goggles help reduce glare off the snow and if it's windy, stop wind from hitting your eyes.

Fun is different things to different people. If you dont have huge amounts of snow, but you have a rail in your backyard, why not have a session now and then? Its better than nothing right? Skiing has always been a fashion show for those who choose to treat it that way. It doesnt have to be though, you can make it anything you want. You could ski in 30 year old gear, hike everyday, and never go to a resort. You can only hit urban rails, you can only hike and ski lines, you make it what you want. This is the reason I quit 6 or 7 compeditive/team sports to ski as much as possible. Rules suck, do whats fun.
