Where Is Skiing Going To End Up?

It's sad to say, but freestyle skiing has a limit. There will be a point at which the sport is maxed out, and nothing more can be done. Yes, it's a depressing thought, but it's a fact that's becoming more and more apparent as each year goes by. Progression will eventually come to a screeching hault...

it did come to a halt. then moved on to where we are now. 20 years ago, noone would have said skiing backwards, grinding, off axis spins etc. was possible. but it is. just coz we cant think of anythin now, doesnt mean the sport will cease to progress. everything progresses, skating, blading, snowboarding, football whatever. it is moving forward, and will continue to do so.

If it wont progress from doing bigger and better things, people will just progress in a way that theyll be able to stomp things constantly that were usually really hard to do (i.e. swtich 7 on chads gap)

i see your point. but my point is still valid. back in the late 90's people were doing standard spins and flips. then mosely decided to go off axis and we moved on a bit. just the other day i was thinking the same as you, what is going to impress me now? big spins? nope. but gagnier's grinds and olssons kangaroo flip surprise and shock me. the reason skiing has progressed so fast, is coz we had boarding blading etc. to look to for inspiration. now that we are catching up with them, its bound to slow down, but it will never stop.

yea, i definitly agree with you about skiing in general as a sport. BUT, freesking will definitly reach a limit of what is humanly possible and physically possible on earth. there will eventually be a point, and im not saying it will be anytime soon, when freeskiing does come to a hault in the progression aspect of things. its just not possible for it never stop. ther are limits to what the human body can take, and do, and what the earths atmosphere will let us do.

in that respect yes. but we've got a long way to go until then. once we get there, "oldskool" tricks will come back in. like fingerflips or boneless' in skating. i guess. i am not the owner of a crystal ball. either way, i could do with skiing slowing down so i can catch up! i got left behind when people started doing mental shit... switch! WTF!

skiing isnt like track and where physical limit is the only soul decider. Look at dancing people have been doing that since ever.
And I bet people 70 years ago would shit there pant if they saw the sex on the dance floor we do these days. lol

the porgression will not stop. it might change the sport so we would never recognize it as we know it. but it will go on forever; untill the poles melt and theres no snow....
