at least rainville and bushfield got it right last year in x big air. exceptions are the Jon Olsson Invitational. just my random 2 cents.

its exactly what you said, spin to win, its lame but big spins will win, contests are being won by the highest dd which means big spins will win. unless everyone in the marque events does not spin to win, or you change formats, like last years wsi. big spins will continue to win.

^ I dont mind watching switch 10's if they're smooth, and most of them are. however, if i was in the position of many of those athletes, i personally wouldnt throw one, but simply on the basis that mine would not look nearly as good as schillers. But the skiers in these contests have confidence in themselves that their switch 10 is the best out of the contestants, so they throw it. however, i think in the near future people will realize their are tricks, mainly double flips, that are comparable in scoring than a cab 10, so they will start throwig those too. there is no reason to do a switch 7, when someone can do it just as smoothly with an entire extra rotation. its garaunteed to not put you on the podium these days

i think the judges ruin the competition by expecting certain tricks to be thrown by certain people: aka.. olson kangaroo flip, schiller switch 897569048276, and nothing less than a 10. cause apparently according to judges.. if a spin is possible.. thats what will win.. regardless of technique(forget the word style here)

If you watch half the videos from last year.. it was all about switch 9, cork 7's in backcountry. now this year it will be cork 10's and switch 12's in backcountry..

contests and judges cause too much controversy.. ski to ski.. and forget about the hype.. just do what you want to do.

yea...unless the riders were tight enough to get together and say hey, what we are doing is really gay, we are being fags. How about we stop being fags. Let's all throw original stylie tricks for a change instead of being gay and throwing switch tens. This way nobody is a fag, and the judges actually have to judge on style.

I too am very tired of switch 10 or 12 fests but they are something that are very difficult if not impossible to avoid. As it is judging is already rather subjective (don't get me wrong I accept the fact that subjectivity is an inherent aspect of judging a "freestyle" sport and I much prefer it to rediculously regimented FIS style judging) but if everyone threw less technical spins like 3's and 5's comps would become all but impossible to judge because chances are almost all the jumps would be completely stomped and there would be little or no criteria upon which the judges could fairly determine the winner. With larger spins such as the 10's and 12's that many of us have come to both loathe and admire there tend to be more criteria for judgement such as how smooth and effortless the spin appears (i.e. hucked or not hucked), how long throughout the spin a grab is held, how tweaked out the grab is etc. etc. As much as we all may bitch and moan about it at this point in time the closest we can come to fair judgement of a competition is to judge based in large part on the technical difficulty of the tricks thrown, otherwise what is already subjective judgement would become virtually ENTIRELY subjective.

first off if you can do a mad-dope cab-10, why not do it and get paid when you win, like schiller. and i'm going to use this as an excuse to rag on last year's Jon's invitationals: PT HUNDER GOT TO THE FINALS THROUGH DEFAULT!! HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING COOL!! ALL HIS COMPETITORS FELL!!! specifically, they fell by trying harder tricks, like sammy's cab-12 or rodeo 9s. basically, PT HUNDER DID NOT DESERVE TO BE IN THE FINAL.

they need to have a style comp where you can't spin over 7. if you do, then the jump score doesn't count. then we'll seperate the huckers from the rest.

Switch ten are nice considering the style that every one has on them, no one is similar and when every rider throws one, they're judge on their style and thats what skiing needs to, it does need to be judge on depending how nuts you have, its style progression. If you're not happy blame the judges cause skiers know they have more chnaces to win than to throw a 9 or 7. But is something new is invented that requires technic and style ike jon's kangarro flip theres no doubt that he will win

judging unnatural any higher than a natural spin in a big air contest is the stupidest shit ever. big air contests are designed so athletes throw their best trick. giving higher scores to unnatural would be like giving a higher score to someone who grabbed their tail because they said they are a hard grab for them

heres what needs to happen.

someone already establsihed as one of the TOP pros in the game needs to say FUCK IT at one of the big comps this year, and then not spin above 7 (maybe 5) on any of the jumps. it could be jon, simon, (pollard could enter one just to shake things up), schiller, or the best effect would be if tanner did it. tanner has already set teh bar high and won everything, it would not only be possible for him to do it (since it wouldn't hurt him monetarily), but it would also probably be the most powerful statement comign from him who owns the comps.


then one of the judges would have to step up and give a tanner 180 a sick score.

that would be the first step. it would get people's attention.

we have already turned into moguls, just with different tricks and no official authority to "outlaw" tricks. we are offical huge homos, and we need to change the sw 10 shit now.


i suggest we start some sort of petition of people saying how they want a well known rider to step up and throw steezy low-spin tricks in one fo the major comps this year. I'm going to start a thread on this and find one of those online petitions if people thinks this is a good idea. we can't expect people trying to make it in the biz to step up cause they're fighting for their lives, but people with money, who are already established can say fuck it for once; it would at least be a statement and we coudl see what happens.

the petition would say something about how people would support that rider in soem way if he did it (maybe donations if money is the only thing that matters)...and would also emphasize that you do NOT support a sw 10 or anything higher winning a comp this year.
