I respect anyones choice to not do drugs, and I don't agree with people that do hard things like meth, coke, and heroin....that shit will fuck you up, but the only way your friend, or anyone for that matter can become addicted to weed, is in his own mind, it has no physically addictive properties, tobacco is far worse for you if you're talking about addiction. And yes, to some extent weed is a gateway drug, but mostly because it's illegal, and to get it, you usually have to go through someone that also sells all those harder drugs, if it were legalized, then recreational users wouldn't have any need to come into contact with other, harder drugs.
I smoke sometimes, and I wouldn't mind trying LSD either, but because the experience would be amazing, and it's one of the safest drugs on the planet because it's not addictive, and utterly impossible to over dose on, because the amount you'd have to take to O.D. is litterally tens of thousands of times more than a normal dose...but all this to say, as long as you aren't so weak you NEED drugs to function, then the non-addictive ones aren't really bad, same with alchohol, there are people out there who can't funtion without drinking everyday, but it's in their own head, because alchohol itself isn't physically addictive.
