you think thats a lame ticket. A couple nights ago i went out to eat with a couple british guys that i met in my hostel in mexico city. at dinner i had a beer but didnt quite finish it, so i just took it with me when i left. its like a 3 block walk back to the hostel, so i was sipping on it while walking back. anyways, we pass these two cops and i think one of them said something to me, but im not really sure because my spanish isnt all that good, so i look at him inquisitively and he doesnt repeat what he said and then looks away, so we keep walking. like a block down the road, the 2 cops are behind us and calls out for us to stop. from what i gathered they stopped me for drinking in public. I think what they said is that the penalty is 36 hours in prison. So i was like freaking out because i do not want to go to a mexican prison. So I´m trying to explain to the cop in broken spanish that I didn´t know it was illegal to drink in public (which i didnt... i didnt think anything was illegal in mexico) so he calls a cop car to come over and im like shit im getting taken to prison. So the car rolls up and i go over to the cop inside and say that i didnt know the law. So he says that it is 1000 pesos fine which is like 100 dollars so im like okay, fine. thats better than prison. so i go to the atm and cash the money and i give it to the cop and he just puts it right into his pocket, writes a little ticket and gives it to me, without ever taking my name or info or anything. So i get back to the hostel and i get to talking with a Mexican guy thats staying there and i tell him this story and he says that that is bullshit and that the maximum penalty for drinking in public is 50 pesos, or 5 dollars. So how´s that for a lame ticket and corrupt cops?
