ok so i recntly bought the new skier magazine and was reading an interview with T-hall and apparently burton wants to get in on the ski buisness.. now im tottally ok with this i think it would show some of the snowboarders that make fun of us that skiing is cool and it is progression wat do you guys think?? pros and cons?? againts or for??
I think it would be cool if they started doing outerwear sponsorships and stuff like that. I don't really support them making skis though, that scene's too competitive and yeah, they would push out the smaller guys who make sick prody already but don't have enough money/ a large enough support base to establish themselves like Burton could.
I can definitely see Burton putting out a freeskiing vid in the next couple of vids though.
burton is sick, but i can see the controversy. we're not going to be our own group anymore. i mean, we already complain enough about being mistaken for snowboarders by the general public (based on our style) and are 'gayer' than boarders on the hill. we're trying to take the sport in our own direction, kind of.. but now we're just going to be seen even more so as underlings of boarders. followers..
do we really want/need this image?
personally, i couldn't care less. burton is sick and i dont mind being the 'haha gay skier' because i ski for me and nobody else. what do you all think?
They still have a list of items within all of their brands that are only available to stores who don't sell skis. You think they are going to make skis whilst maintaining the divide with tactics like that? No, they aren't making skis.
Pathetic situation being the rise in number of young skiiers after many falling years. Insane progression, and a growing acceptance in the FIS and even some of the olympic comitee right?
TECHNICALLY, Burton has already stepped up into the ski game. Burton owns Anon, which sponsors skiers. Maybe they'll start adding some skiers on their softgoods team, but Burton skis dont seem like a possiblility.
i didn't see tanner's mention of burton in the mage either or even him implying anything similar. but it's still an fun topic to think about.
i don't think burton would ever enter the ski market. i don't think they want to (i'm talking skis... not soft goods, we know that's already a fact). i don't think i know any more than the next guy about this, but i think i have enough close friends at all levels of that company to have an idea of whats going on.
pretty much, building skis with their name or another name would collapse the foundation which they stand on. it would hurt their board business 1000 times more than the new venture would benefit.
props to burton for sticking to their guns, but still finding room to adapt. we don't need them in the ski business (i say that as respectfully as possible) and no matter what snowboarders (and apparently some skiers) say about them being too corporate, which is true if you're only concerned with the idea of selling out, behind the scenes the big companies like burton keep the industry going. there are people making a lot of money off of the business, but they're still fueling snow-sport newbies, which keeps the whole industry going, and hopefully, one day, growing.
the only reason why i wish burton WOULD build skis, is that it would mean a ski job for me in burlington! that's my incoherent rant for the day.
Exactly. I know that if I snowboarded I probably wouldnt support Burton if they made skis as well. Just like I don't support K2...or Salomon for that fact, I'd much rather support a skier owned and developed business, not some corporate, crap quality, cookie cutter design.
Burton was founded on the terms of createing a high quality product, which was rider developed. If they ventured into the ski market, then who exactly would be developing these skis? I know I wouldn't want to buy some skis that were designed by a snowboarder. If they made them, they would probably be some crap design that copies off another ski.
although my dad knew this guy that did like the superduperlazer tuneup shit or whatever and my dad got his skis tuned there. which is weird.but cool i guess.
I would be extremely frustrated if burton entered skiing. They already have conquered the snowboarding industry, why should we allow all our quality ski companies to get bought out. Not to say that burton makes bad products, because there outerwear and boards are quality, but I would rather have skiing remain at least somewhat indipendent.
I heard that freestyle wont have the halfpipe position in the olypics, so with that subtraction of that publicity for skiing it probably wont happen. If it did go to olypics, then the publicity of it would probably lurch burton towards the ski industry, so its a future possibility, but I doubt it would happen soon.
i think burton makin skis would be cool..........id never buy there skis b/c my pipe clearners are to amazing but it would maby help skin out and make it not as aquward for me to wear burton clothes
libtech already tried it with the NAS. I dunno, if they price skis like they price snowboards, then I'm all for it, but they're already enuf sidecuts and techs out there to satisfy, except it would be sick to have some kinda indents or deep cuts on twintips so that u could grab the bases or sumthin nuts like that.
doubt it will happen. jake burton (the founder of burton and snowboarding) would never betray his own sport and cross into the world of skiing. and if burton did start to make skis, they would only do it because they know that freestyle skiing is beginning to take over.
