BC booters into... firm snow?

so the only movies i've seen so far this year are corduroy and photoplay. both were pretty sick, especially corduroy. but i have to ask, what's the deal with building huge bc booters into 4 inches of baked snow? i mean cool, i guess. it seems like it would make it a lot easier to claim switch pow landings when it's not really into pow. if you're going to do that though, why waste the time building a huge jump? why not just film in the park?
don't get me wrong, i really enjoyed both movies, and they each had a lot of real pow jumps in them too, which was cool. i just think it was more fun to watch marc andre or EP throw 9s into a foot of fresh instead of 4 inches of baked.

most of those umps were built late in spring or early in sumer, hence the baked landings

well, to be honest, not all skiiers are fucking amazing at landing switch in powder.
yes, there were some pros busting out with that shit a few seasons ago, but there are still alot of people catching up/getting it dialed in.
do you really expect every switch landing to be in 4 feet of pow, from the very beginning?

but there are just things you can't achieve in a park. very few parks have cliffs, for example. Very few parks have 100+ foot jumps. Or jumps over trees. Or large cornices. Or crevasses. These are not easily manufacturable elements.

Late season... generally speaking, when there's good snow, most people who have a choice are putting in days actually skiing rather than hitting jumps.

not too good of an idea, sounds like it would suck to fall, you would get bad ice burn

with the exception of whistler and hood the parks here were all closed by late april, I believe some of those shots were taken late may and June, maybe even July.

later in the season, different areas, different sun exposures, whatever. There's a million reasons.

photoplay was done shooting in may...just the sun...living in the pacific north west makes for less sun until late winter/spring. Plus we have a tiny crew so I have to film most stuff. Glad you enjoyed though.

its still really hard to land on baked landings, perhaps even harder cause that snow is STICKY

people are forgetting how hard it is to build a booter from fresh powder...you need to let things bake.
when you see a fresh pow booter landing, odds are the jump has bee there for at least a week setting up
All times are Eastern (-5)
