first off, schiller and dumont are good comp skiers, but not even comparable as all around greats imo.
second, jon must be on the level with tanner and candide. he is still progressing insanely: pioneered the kangaroo flip and stomped it like it was nothing many times in the first comp chance he had. also, he has won the swedish big mountain champs, ahead of ppl like kaj zachrisson so he actually is an insane all around skier that few ppl give him credit for.
third, you cannot take way the fact that tanner is the best comp skier in freestyle history: the results speak for themself. be that as it may, he rarely does stuff in comps that are truly breathtaking (think tj sw 1440 or candide's 2001 pipe run). he just seems to do good (not insane) stuff but really stomps it.
fourth, candide never, never stops doing truly groundbreaking shit for the sport.
-1st skier to stomp chads (age 15) and then d-spin 7s it (stratospheric at the time).
-Pipe run at X 2001 that really came to define pipe skiing
-Corked 810 to rail 2004
-Highest ever tree jib (24.5 feet, see WAR)
-Highest ever 1/4 pipe hit
-Construction and destruction of the biggest comp jump in history at his invite this year
-single handedly attracted quiksilver to buy rossi, undoubtedly a great event for skiing.
etc etc..
All this leads me to conclude that Candide is the undisputed maestro. He continually takes the sport in direction most don't believe possible owns whatever type of skiing he does. Second is Jon who doesn't get the recognition he surely deserves, esp. not in the big mtn side of things. Third is Tanner for his success in comps (well deserved don't get me wrong)
agreed. Jon is undoubtably the best all around skier. before he switched to free riding, he raced in the FIS level which is one stop short of being on a national team. the One thing that Jon lacks is the rail skills. but honestly, you're either good at rails and nothing else (iannick B) or you rip hard everywhere else but rails. Tanner and Candide are dope at rails and Bc and park, which make them the 2 best skiers.
period.
I totally agree, Tanner and Candide win the best skiier, and i wouldnt call candide better than tanner, but i would say that they both revolutionized the sport..
so, we can come to the conclusion that Jon, Tanner, and Candide are skiings true superpowers, and although Schiller and Dumont are definitely not wack, they are not on the same level?
jon, pep, cr, and candide are all better than tanner overall. there are many people better than him in backcountry, but he is still one of the best in the park, and as for pipe, i don't even want to go there, but as i saw it, he shouldn't of even medaled at X-games, bronze at best.
I think Pep deserves to be mentioned in this conversation. He doesnt come to the comps full boat anymore but he still continues to progress the sport way more than most the people mentioned before.
tanner is good in park, bc booters, urban, and getting up there in pipe, and he is working on his big mountain lines, but you cant say who is the best skier ever cuz each skier can do some things better than others.
I agree with a-nice, i mean even though hes so played and alot of people hate him, hes sooo ill not saying the others are beat there ill too its just you cant forget about tanner
whatever guys, when i see any of those people produce a segmen tlike show and prove i will admit that tanner is not the best, but that day has not come yet
tanner's sick and all, and he is obviously the best competition skier out there... but in my opinion there are plenty of better all around skiers, such as candide, jon, pep, pollard... not to say tanner isnt sick, because he obviously is, but winning every comp doesnt necessarily make you the best skier, just the best comp skier...
i really wasn't that impress with tanner in S&P. I mean just comparing his 10 270s on that mammoth jump to jacob clearly proves something, N he doesnt grap taht much anymore. He has definitly been surpassed by a lot of people.
k tanner has won the most comps, destroys bc like none other, slays the park, rocks the pipe, and has oooozing steeeeze........he is the best. also, how the fuck can u even try to compare him to gagnier? tanners got style, gagnier dont.
You must be joking, you think Quik spent over 200 million based on Candide, who they pay probably a couple hundred thousand a year at the most? That would be a very poor business decision.
bit of a fucking coincidence then that having shown no previous signs of being interested in rossi whatsoever, quiksilver initiated the takeover as soon as candide announced he was signing for rossi. also consider that candide has phenomenal status in europe and that he is the only skier on the quiksilver pro team... furthermore consider that a high ranking quiksilver official told me in person that the single biggest reason for the buyout was that by signing candide, rossi had demonstrated it had real designs on expanding in the freeski market.
so examine the facts before making sarcastic remarks you facaetious prick. (no offence)
Do you not follow logic? Candide wouldn't spur a 200 million dollar merger. He isnt a universal star. If he was he would be make 10 mil+ a year. But I doubt he even makes in the 7 figures total. The racers on Rossi get paid more than him. His signing to Rossi makes no difference in the merger. They thought it was a good business decision since they would get more market share. How would combining the companies because of Candide benefit them? Let me guess, this high ranking Quik official was your buddy who got an internship there, and he knows you are gullible so he made some shit up. If he was he would be make 10 mil+ a year. But I doubt he even makes in the 7 figures total. The racers on Rossi get paid more than him.
Also why wouldn't Quiksilver buy Channel Islands Surfboards when it was sold a couple months back. They have Kelly and other Quik surfers who are 10 times bigger names than Candide? If they wanted brand monopolization of athletes this would have been a much cheaper and better move. Or lets think about it in a logical way, they bought Rossignol because they felt it would benefit their shareholders, completely, 100% unrelated to Candide.
YOU CLOWN! Your username is something that T invented. Tanner slayed so hard this season and showed the world he knows how to shred backcountry and hit natural booters like the
best snowboarders. Next year he will go to AK and destroy shit.
errr, fuck i dont know. maybe because quik are already a huge presence in surfing and wanted to be part of freeskiing where they werent?
Whatever anyway, you're spouting shite and we've hijacked the thread which i never set out to do. the only thing that matters is that candide is the best freeskier ever (for the other undisputed reasons listed in my previous post.)
I work for rossignol and you are way off base. No company is going to purchase a company for the freeski market. Quick didn't get to where they are buy being that short sighted.
Here are the reasons that quick bought rossi.
Clevelend Golf and using the Rossi name to create an outdoor clothing brand.
As far as candide
a french company
quick's influence
being able to design skis not just have a ski named after him
