VOLKL GOTAMA VS. SETH

Alright, so I am at a crossroads. This year I am looking to buy a new set of pow skis, and have had my heart set of the seths but then started reading a lot about the volkl gotamas and aparently they kick ass. So who has ridden both? who rides either? Comments are what I'm looking for


But also, I have noticed that the gotama grafics display a very perticular midsole. Can you centermount them? Do they still ski relatively the same? Experiences? Stories?

I havent rode the Seths, so its not objective, but Gotamas are the shit... I LOVE them

well the gotama is alot stiffer and a bit fatter. The seth is more of an all around ski as you can ski it everywhere. the gotama is a more big mtn orientated ski. Both are sick and which ever you buy you will be happy with

Well if your looking for a 'pow ski' then you may want to look at the Maden/AK Enemy. As its more secifically a pow ski. But both Gots and SV's are great choices for more Bim Mountain charging skis. Some prefer stiff sticks some like soft ones. Madens are dumb fun in the pow. Gots are a nice stable ski but i ski SV's more as i just like emm for AM. But ill be going to a stiffer wider stick for chargin when more money materialies? SOmething to consider.

Gotamas = a lot stiffer, little wider

i've ridden both. for just ripping pow and choppy snow, gotamas are amazing skis. i was not the happiest person when i tried skiing in the park with them. the seth is a better all-mountain ski since it has a little more sidecut and is softer. this year's gotama has a little more sidecut than previous year's, just fyi.

I haven't skied the Seth's but I have skied the Gotama's. They are fun, pretty stiff and wider. I liked 'em.

I ride the seths and I love them.. they float pow pretty well... but are still agile enough to go in the trees and the bumps... also they're still a good park ski.. you can use them anywhere.

Gotama's shred through anything they're fucking awsome. I personally have made'ns but my roomate has gotamas and there fucking tanks and great in pow.

Gotamas are great. I used them in big mountain comps, but not so bueno in the park.

Sweet. well my fujis are still holding it down for my park pleasures, and while I was going to go with the seths I am now reconsidering because I am buying a ski for pow and now all around(why buy a ski for allaround when you can have the best park and the best pow?)

But who knows about the mounting situation? I know there is the freestyle point, and then the traditional point. I would like them to be more centermount, but I was wondering if anyone had gone above the fs mount point? also, I'm like 5'11 170. . . am I correct in thinking about the 183? The longer 190 seems just a little too core for what I'm planning on doing with the ski, which is mainly trees and assortment of pow(I prefere quickness to float, but want it to be a floaty ski) capish?

how are the gotamas on piste in comparison to the seths, as i want a pair but will obviously be skiing piste when the conditions are bad(can be in europe)

I ride the gotomas in all conditions groomer days to pow days, the stiffness is nice for when shit gets tracked up and you can just blow right through anything, and they haul ass on inbounds runs

I have the 04 gotamas, 176. My favorite skis, hands down, that I have ever ridden on. My only gripe was that they were too short. Therefore, I step up to the 83 gotamas this year. They straight kill everything. Pow, trees, groomers, bumps even, park, everything. If you are a strong skier and know how to ski a big, fat, stiff ski, the gotama won't disappoint. I'm just trying to spread the joy that the got's brought me....

don't centermount them, if you wanna ride powder without total back seat ridin then mount them traditional, its only like an inch and a half off

That looks like it's right on the money for mounting. There are a couple reasons you don't want to go forward of the FS line on Gotamas. For one thing, you're ruining perfectly capable skis by mounting them too far forward. And for the second thing, that is just a terrible thing to do to a good ski. If you want them forward mount them right on the FS line and you should be happy.

the guys at phd said this is where i want them mounted, and i trust their advice. the skis look kind of wierd in the shot because of having a super wide angle lens on my camera

i have a pair of gotamas, they're sick, big and fat to glide in the pow but still have a little side cut to kill it when your cruisin on groomers too... they can handle way more than the pistols

i have the 04-05 gotamas.. here's a link with a pic and the sidecut dimensions

i bought last years, the 05/06 since they have a black topsheet instead of white, they are made in the germany instead of china, and have been out for a few years and are proven, unlike this years which are completly redun.

Yeah, but what about landing switch in pow? Right now I'm riding 179 Fujatives completly centermount, and while they are kinda tricky to figure out, it defiently isnt a complete backseat game, you just have to know how to shred them (in pow I'm talking about)

I just want to have enough tail on these things.

I have 04-05 190 Gotamas, they only have one suggested mount point. no fs, fr lines like on the 05 06. So, what should I do? I bought them primarily for pow, but I do ski switch quite a bit, so...I was thinking +1.5 or +2 from suggested?

They're not going to be all that great for skiing switch no matter what you do, so you'd probably be fine at +1.5 or so. But talk to the guys at your local shop or post something on TGR to get a second opinion before you go ahead and mount them. But whatever you do, don't go too far forward or you'll have skis that have tip dive issues.

Why don't you just ask the guy that mounted your Fujatives? Oh yeah, that was me. So, Mr. Reeder. If you are gonna get them (the 183's), in my opinion, you should mount them 1 cm forward from the recommended (traditional)mounting point. At 183 cm they've got 4 cm on your fujis, not to mention more contact area due to that gnarly flipped up tail (if the fuji was made in a 183.) Whatever you decide, that ski will straight Mash. Traditional mount? Center Mount? Alll Riiiight.

Just swing by the Authority when you want them mounted so I can click in and Shelf-drop them on the sales floor. DROPPING, BAAAAYBEH!

How about between Gotamas and Mojo 105's, if anyone has had the chance to try them??????? I'm interested in the 2, although im pretty sure the heads will be more expensive...
