It seems like the tapered tails or reverse sidecut or whatever would make it difficult to land switch and ski switch in powder thus inhibiting the progression of the sport. Just a thought.
Oh wow, this thread just made my day. So you're saying to progress the sport we'll have to make some sort of double-tipped ski or something? But seriously, Shane has completely revolutionized powder skiing with his ski designs (which are pure genius, in my opinion), so I fail to see how this doesn't progress the sport. Just because it doesn't have to do with switch skiing doesn't mean it inhibits progression.
First off...The pontoons do have a turned up tail, and landing switch in powder is not an every run thing! Especially on a pwder day, you ski top to bottom, as fast as you can on the gnarliest lines possible...
The ONLY downside to the pontoons (I have a pair of 189's and skied them about 20 days last march in Tahoe) is that they SUCK for hiking, try thowing them on your shoulder and they scissor like hell, try sidestepping up a couple hundred vert or traversing so mad dog singletrack and they are tough to control...same with the spatulas..
Not progessing the sport? Don't be that dumb...really? Those two skis the spats and the toon's have changed powder skiing and line selection more than any innovation since the fat ski...
The ARG's are almost the same tip and tail to accomodate switch riding. The pontoon would be one of the toughest skis to ski switch because they are made to go forward only.
exactly. the progression of skiing is not just switch everything. people are constantly pushing the limits and boundaries of big mountain skiing, and to accomodate for that, they make skis that help them do that. just like when people first made twin tips, to accomodate for switch landings. now were just making them to help out on 50+ degree slopes in powder. twins dont do eevrything.
yeah most def. but think of how crazy it would be if you mounted your skis backwards like toe piece where the heel piece should be and charged those 50+ degree slopes just as hard as everyone else, progression or just insanity?
They started the first demo with TJ Shiller, and T-Hall on november first. It is in the new Freeskier, there is a part about the new shape of skis in there.
