anyone on ns work as a liftee or ticket checker? is it an enjoyable job? seeing thousands of people ride up while your just standing there? it seems like you could get pretty depressed doing a job like that

lineskier is a dick....i used to work at mammoth at the cash register...sometimes i got "lucky" and they put me at the till by the window that looked over the whole bottom part of the main park...as much as it sucked watching others ski while i was at work, at least i saw some pretty badass shit go down in the park for a solid 6 hours a day.

If you wanna be a liftee or ticket checker prepare to be outside 6-8 hours a day. Bundle up. Whenever I saw them they were always freezing, or trying to stay warm.

dude to be honest...i wont be seeing snow for another 2 3 maybe 4 months...right now i would just love to be at the mountain...in the atmosphere of a fucking chill mountain and just standing there knowing that ski season is present....so right now i would love to be working the lif sipping a cup of hot chocolate

yup, im a homo who just loves it up the but...and i would never want to ski anyway, just sit there and watch them, its my favorite hobby actually. thats why i actually put a frozen hotdog on my seat for the whole shift that i was working so i can get enough money to be a ski bum in mammoth, something you can still dream about for another few years till you get out of middle school.

calm down there tough guy.
if you only work 4 hours a day, you only get paid for working 4 hours a day. other people actually need some cash to afford to live in a place where they can ski on the days they do have off. when you finally get out of junior high, you might understand that.

I instructed last year, and it sucked having to be on the bunny hill watching others ski. Thats why I'm going to try to do park crew this year so I can still make money and ski the park.

shit things about lift jobs.
1) its fkin cold
2) its fkin boring and repetative
3) if ur up top, its even colder, more boring and more repetative cos ur by yourself
ask any mountain which department has the biggest seasonal drop off of staff, and theyll tell u its lifts. My mountain lost over 80% last year. Theres a reason for that.
Get a job in the retail shop, rental shop or repair shop - you get to work with gear and learn ur stuff, talk crap to people who dont know anything, and youll get shit hot deals on anything.
plus, if ur in the rental shop, you get to ski every ski in there, and when the demo days come around, you get to try all next years.

yeah im on a park crew and sometimes it sucks but u can look back on and be like yeah i could be building jumps now and watch people kill it or (insert job here) and its all good. Its usually pretty enjoyable though cause once ur done with something its just so sick looking when its perfect.

Dont do it, being a liftie has to be the worst job on any mountain. Any job that requires working during the day 5 days a week blows.
If you are moving to a major resort get a night job somewhere, hotels, restaurants, theaters, wherever, hell even fast food, the general shittyness of the job will be made up by the fact that you will never miss a pow day and can ski 7 days a week.

I was a liftie last season, and I would suggests that If you can avoid being one on the east coast, do it. It gets so cold sitting down there swinging chairs for 8 hours, while other people get to ski. But if you need a way to get a pass it takes little to no skill and is better than working inside.

yea im a ski instuctor and when i need a few extra hours I check the left lines, and act as a mountian host. The tic checking sure is a way to make some money with dam near 0 talent required, but it does get really fucking cold sometimes
