i have an olympus e-500 which came with a 14-45 mm and 45-150 but there basically twice that. That kit has come down in price alot since i bought mine. I really like it alot. i was choosing between, rebel, e500 and 20d but the 20d was a little too advanced for me at the time, and i wanted something a bit cheaper and different lenses so i woulnt have to spend alot more later on. Either if you are a begginner or a more advanced shooter the olympus will work well.

It does matter what you want the camera for too... like just for fuckin around or for nice pics with more options for your pic

the rebel xti is brand new and has a larger 10 mp CMOS sensor (xt only had 8), new sensor dust cleaning system, 9-point autofocus compared to the xt's 7, higher perfomance buffer meaning more continuous shooting, and a bigger 2.5" lcd. those are the most significant differences.

For your price range, look at a Canon Rebel (Maybe the "XT" version) or a Nikon D50. They both have the their pros and cons. I choce canon (Rebel XT) because of their 'L' series lenses.
