I think that's only if they're flying super high, since the jet is still loud, just when it's far up it takes longer for the sound to reach you then it does for the jet to fly past your house. If the jet were low, you'd hear it pretty quick.
yay flyovers! B2s are pretty damn quiet for jets. A Concorde flew over my backyard once, low enough to see the landing gear sticking out clearly. No idea what it was doing in my area though.
We have an airforce base in syracuse and its right near my dads office. F-15's and F-16's along with other larger planes are a regular occurance there. Once every couple weeks they fly over my house too. I saw them yesterday.
i was cadding at my local golf course on july 4th and 3 F-16s flew over LOUD as fuck and they were super low and it was one of the sweatest things ive ever seen...never seen them that low before
above my house is restricted airspace and i always see random military/ airforce jets and helicopters flying over, like apache helicopters and a-10s and a few times some f-16's. and they are always flying really low, the apaches fly just above the trees and they are in formation and it gets pretty loud. its all weird htough seeing as i live almost in the boonies and the millitary base is not even close to my house and the afb is even farther away.
spitifres? wtf thats a piston engine fighter from WW2, absolutly no reason they would be flying with a B52, those things are vintage and you'd pay literally millions for one of the few left these days.
Nah man, theyd just fly them to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean and base em outta there, theres no way a pilot could last 40 hours jus tto bomb a target
actually ur wrong because they first bombing missions they used them and they were located at their base in alabama and they flew non stop.. it was on the discovery channel and history channel
last year i went to school right next to the biggest air force reserve of C130 gunships in the country. For those that dont know, they are BIG ass 4 prop planes, loaded to the brim with guns. needless to say, those fuckers were pretty much constantly in the air around campus, flying supppper low. like, low enough to see pilots.
No it doesnt matter how high it is, it depends on how fast its flying only. If its close enough so that you can hear the sound, but its going faster then the speed of sound (like 750 mph ish if i remeber right) then its just that the jet goes by you before the sound waves even get to you. Thats how you get sonic booms and shit too when the waves pile up on eachother.
My dads buddy flew a fighter jet over his hometown when he was in the airforce and the sonic boom blew shutters off houses and set off car alarms and shit so he says.
