hey man, i was going to post this in that thread, but i keep coming up on things that i get confused on. i dont really want to post this because i don't want to try to make generalizations about your faith without really having strong knowledge of it. im catholic and i have some limited experience with the evangelical christian church, and i just wanted to ask if this made sense or not. Im not trying to be a jerk or anything, im just trying to figure out some stuff.
the whole overall belief in the church, the bible, God, jesus, etc. is called Christianity. If you look at it that way, then yes, catholics are christians. however, there is a difference between a catholic church and a christian church, and it's all by the own denomination's definition of what a christian is. so really, it is like snowboarding and skiing. we're all part of a group of people who love snow, but we hold different beliefs as to how we should go about enjoying the snow. Conceivably, you could call us all "snowriders", but thats retarded because we're two almost completely different groups of people.
The way that a Christian practices their faith has alot more emphasis on accepting jesus christ as their savior. Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the only answer to the problem of separation from God. Catholics believe that salvation may only be achieved through God's grace, meaning through a personal relationship with god through prayer and reconciliation. Granted, we still believe that jesus was the son of God and he was sent down from heaven from heaven to forgive us our sins, but we pray to God for forgiveness. We pray that Christ will come again to remove our sins.
