Yes guys, I'm sorry it's still true.

You see posting that your company has pre-orders avilable or new trailers or new product or something like that is ALL advertising.

The forums are for your customers to discuss your new trailer, not for you to boast it.

Press releases are free of charge, the trailer section is free of charge, there's a bunch of ways to freely advertise your product, just not in the forums.

Please contact me if you're looking to promote something - mr.bishop@newschoolers.com. We'll set you up.

And if anyone says "Yeah but the press release section doesn't give enough exposure!" remember it is free. If you want to make money off of us, you've got to buy an ad. I can inform you of our rates.

For the rest of you, check out the trailer section, read the press release section... don't just look to the forums for info on the site!

Thanks guys... sorry about this. If we don't regulate our forums are going to turn into one giant ad board. Then it won't be fun for anyone!

doug the problem with that is... where does the line get drawn between advertizing, and people talking about something...

what if a total random not affiliated with any company starts a conversation about a movie he likes... someone else asks where the link to the teaser is. boom it gets posted. Have fun with that never ending deleting nightmare.

Everything is advertizing.

But really they aren't advertizing anything, cause no one in skiing makes money off of anything, including this site.

so let the stoked kids in minnasota promote their latest creation cause I gaurentee no one is gonna see it otherwise, and let the big guns post a link to their shit too. ITS GOOD FOR THE INDUSRTY. IT MAKES PEOPLE STOKED TO BUY PRODUCT FROM COMPANIES THAT WOULD ADVERTIZE ON YOUR SITE.

go sell an ad to some long underwear company, and leave the kids alone.

Ok, look I don't know why nobody listens.

Random kid makes a thread about a teaster he saw - FINE!!!! We promote this.

Company X makes a forum about their trailer - NO! You need to post your trailer and let people think about this.

The whole thing is it is ok for a random person NOT affiliated with a company to pump the shit out of a trailer thats dope. This is what our forms are for.

They are not a tool for a company to promote themselves.

The problem is that if we didn't have this rule, ski gabber would be nothing but countless advertising threads, and nobody would be able to talk about anything else.

Ok, I think we've come up with a solution.

Everyone wants to promote the living hell out of their trailers in the forums.

We don't want it in ski gabber, and that's that.

What do you guys think about adding a forum for trailer discussion? We are sick and tired of this drama, so we'll just give a concentrated place that can be 4,000 threads on every movie trailer in the world.

Paul is working on it, and if you guys like the idea we'll launch it later this afternoon.

i don't liek the idea because ski gabber = The most popular forum on NS, the Ski Gabber forum is used to discuss anything ski related. From competitions to hills to trick tips, this forum is for it all.
anything ski related = ski movies. What's the big deal if people let others know that they have a pre order up or the trailer is now availible in this forum..this forum would be dull without that.

The big deal, and the reason that we keep saying is that if we don't regulate there will be at LEAST 50 posts about trailers in the forum.

This is the whole reason we're trying to keep it out, so that people who are interested in a trailer can discuss it. However if companies decide that this is the only way to market their product, ski gabber will just become one big ad.

Am I fucking crazy for thinking this?

yes sir. it's annoying to see threads deleted just because it was advertising. let people be. it's like this..without advertising the superbowl would suck. ski gabber would suck without advertising.

How about a trailor is only alright to post if they want people to critique it, discuss it and be excited about it. It's not alright to post a trailor as a direct advertisement for the film, or make a post related directly to the selling of the product. I mean it seems logical right?

The problem is that if you allow one, you have to allow all. There's no way to decide which ones are cool and which ones aren't. People would just get mad at us for playing favorites.

The problem is that you have to make a distinction somewhere.

We decided that the best way was this: If you work for the company in question, you can't START a thread about it.

You, as a company are ENCOURAGED to respond to threads about your company. People are ENCOURAGED to start threads about companies they are stoked on.

The only thing that is not allowed, is a staff at a company starting a thread about their own company.

invasion of "non-affiliated" alias names for promotion.

its too vague of a line and it can't be drawn. its extremely hard to tell what is an ad or what is some kid stoked on a product and wanting to let people know.

heres the thing i dont agree with people posting things about there companies in the ski gabber so make a combined forum for trailers and ski companies and big companies  shouldnt beable to post things about there companies only little companies like EC headware for example because the big companies have enough money to buy advertising space so u can make money

Yes I understand that but if you go by simple rules like, if the post contains order information then it's an advertisement. I'm just trying to see it as when I post a trailor up for a biking movie I'm making and I want people to see it and give me feedback on it, I don't want it to be mistaken as an advertisement because I made it or was in part of making it. I'm in no way intending that to be one, I just want people to be stoked on it.

If you wanted to post something about a biking movie, put it in the media and arts section. That would be fine.

Biking trailer shouldn't be in ski gabber anyways!

Something like that would be perfectly fine.

You've got it... I don't think anyone is actually thinking about what we're saying here.

Talking about company you like = OK
responding to thread about your company = OK
starting thread about your company = NO

If people were smart, they'd realise you could send us a free press release, get it posted, and then wait for people to talk about it. Then you've played by the rules, made everyone happy and we can help you out more and more to grow your company.

i agree man. Stop using this site for free....

whenver you start a company, don't expect to get free advertisment and the exposure. You have to pay for it... in the long run, if you are doing everything right, it will be worth it!

If you can't afford to get advertisement, dont start a company, its not gonna survive anyways!

I'd bet $20 that if this happened people would be very quickly say "Man, there's too much advertising in ski gabber"

I totatly agree with Bishop, no more random ads for your homemade movies/products in ski gabber. And that's not to say that no one likes them, its just that every other kid is pushing the same product and it gets a little overwhelming after a while.
