What hardware do I need to convert video from either a VCR or DVD player to firewire, in order to capture it on my computer?

yea use a/v cables. no firewire.

you would need a video card with video in capabilities. I recommend the ATI All in Wonder series. Or if its on a DVD then having a DVD drive in your computer would work too
