ok-i posted a thread about my knee injury a couple days ago and i got an mri today: torn medial meniscus. i go to surgery thursday...but heres the thing-they said depending on how big the tear is, i could be down for a little as 24hrs, or up to 6weeks! now, im no doctor but i really dont think that after surgery on something like a knee will only put me out for 24hrs...if any of you have nething that may help calm me down before thursday, id appreciate it!

well you need to stay off of the knee for at least a month to let a tear heal after surgery, if they totally remove the meniscus you can walk as soon as you feel up to it. so, minor tears are actually worse recovery time than major tears, but better in the long run.

meniscus repair isnt as serious as an acl replacement but you likely wont be 100% on the hill until around xmas depending on how well the surgery goes

6 weeks?? PSSHHHH!! that's no time at all. it'll just keep you busy until ski season, and when the snow falls it'll be that much sweeter.

Wow how did you get the MRI and surgury sooo fast. Menicus isent that bad, depending on how bad you tore it i tore both meniscus and acl in march. They trimmed the outside one, and if they trim it you can almost walk out of the OR and its not a big deal at all, but if you get it repaired its longer. they repaired my inside meniscus and it was a complex tear(2 different tears) and i was in a brace for 4 weeks, and not allowed to squat for 4 months but apperently my doctor is super conservative, and usually meniscus repairs take 2 months. no matter what you get its not a big deal its only 2 months and you will ski, but getting it repaired is better in the long run, cause if they take some of it away you have a better chance of getting arthritis later in life

wowzers you sure got lucky, i thought for sure it would've been acl (at least) but you got off lucky man... plus you got your mri/surgery soooo fast..i had to wait like 3 weeks to get surgery when i tore my acl/lateral meniscus..
but good luck on the surgery & rehab, make sure you take the rehab exercises seriously
