from someone who builds skis, the topsheet material has very little effect on flex. that is controled entirely by the core and fiberglass. the problem with the trouble makers, is that they use a Horizontal (think plywood style) core. the problem with this, is that the flex is mostly controled via the glue joints, and over time, these glue joints break down, resulting in a softer, less poppy flex. another thing to note, is since glues used to build skis are MUCH heavier than any other material in the ski, laminating the surface area of the core like that results in a good deal more glue being used. the TM is not super light. mostly, vs other skis, its lighter because its fairly thin, and pretty narrow at 75 waist. this somewhat counteracts the glues weight, but i could still feel it.
while all that sounds real bad and everything, the TM is a dope ski. thy carve great, pop like nothing else off trannies (found them much harder to quickly load up for ollies than V lam skis though), handle speed fine, and feel great in the air. i felt the pintail design made them nose heavy on rails, but its nelgible.
bottom line, TMs are dope skis, but do not expect them to last very long, a season if your lucky. however, dynastar was great with warrenties for me, so i wouldnt fret over it too bad. they are def good skis. also, you sound like your pretty fresh into the sport, and wont be beating the piss outta them too hard, so they should be fine. id reccomend them.
