Trv900 vs. vx1000

i am considerig getting a new camera. both of these seem to be pretty sweet. pros and cons? reviews? sugesstions?

hmmm well alota people will say 1000 over the trv but they are pretty simalur...really the only difference is the body/shell and maybe the mic but if your filming skiing the mic isnt really a big deal

vx1000 on ebay are selling for around 800 nowadays i havnt checked in on the trv in a while

both are 3 chip and umm that pretty much sums it up
the 2000 has a 58 mm lenses thingy and then trv has a 37mm so if ur wanting to buy a good fisheye as well (my suggestion is the death lenses (century optics .3 fisheye) then the trv would get a baby death (300 bucks) and the 2000 would get the death (800 bucks) both are the same thing have the same distortion and everything the baby is just for smaller cameras

ive got a vx1000 and its pretty awsome, you can get such awsome shots and such cool color, like crazy good shots if you set it up right, but if you dont set it up right is can be just ok. so as long as you spend the time to set it up right and stuff you will get better footage than sooooo many other 3 chips.

Tanaka you cant come out and just say the vx is shit...id use it any day over a canon...and it might now have a lcd screen but when would you ever use one anyway...i very r arely use it on my vx2

dude ... go vx fo sho .... my friend has a vx1000 and he refuses to try anything else because he likes it so much ... i prefer my gl2 over any sony .... but everyone has different opinions .... i do have to say though ... sony's are a lot better in low lighting ...

Matt I'd say go for the trv. If you search google they compare them and they are pretty similar and you will save alot buying the trv. Also correct me if I'm wrong but arn't the trv's more popular nowadays so parts are easier to find/get? It took me a while to tune my vx in but once I did the colors and quality was so much better. Another idea is get a jvc dv-800. Thats the cam my dad has and for being a consumer cam its probably the best one I've used. It also has the biggest lcd of any consumer cams. Its also alot smaller than the vx or the trv. If you want to see some vid of the vx check my profile but keep in mind I compressed it at 25% its original quality and shrunk the size of the vid.

The vx1000 you can get some really nice colors with not that much work and with the trv900 you get still get good colors you just gotta try a little harder.If i were you id shop around and look into other cameras like the pani dvc100a and maybe if you want a hd look into the cheaper sony hd.Its a big desion so make sure you get something that you really want.

i just purchased a AG-DVC 30, its dope
I've been messing around with it and it looks like its going to be a very dope camera. You can shoot in 30fps, letter box as well for a solid look. Colors look nice.
Only down to the camera so far is the handle, no record button on it and its removable, its sturdy but you hand is near the microphone, but it aint no big deal, sick camera, nice size and weight too. got an external mic too thats going to be nice, need to figure that thing out.

jibtech is right.  if you want dope color, get a panasonic.  i have a pv-gs500 and a dvx100b.  the dvx has the best color money can by in a 3 chip dv camera, and the gs500 is just a high end consumer three chip, but it still gets color as vibrant as a vx1000.  canon's have shit color from what i've seen from my friends' gl2.  so really if you want to really kill it without spending a lot of dough, get the panasonic ag-dvc30.  it's one step up from the pv-gs series and one step down from the dvx, you can get them pretty cheap and the colors is sick nasty, and it has a big lens and a handle with good optical stabilization.

I dont agree about the dvc30.Two of my friends have them and there colors arnt as nearly as clear as vx1000s are.Every shot on the dvc30 are way to yellow.

If I were you I would get a vx1k and get a uv filter for when winter comes.

The vx1k and gs300 are really similar in quality tho.You might want to go on skateperception.People there can help you more then the people here can.

Well then its most likely your friends dont know what there doing, since the dvc30 has manual controls, so you can change everything. Id watch out on the vx1k because its older, and the cold causes things to malfunction much much easier, i was going to get one. I went withthe panny dvc30, and its the ballinist shit...EVA!

I don't like Sony cameras in general. I don't like any of the vxk's. They're only good for death lenses and thats about it. They only shoot 60i (yuk). Its more of a personal thing. One of the reasons I hate almost all skate movies is because they're filmed entirely with VX's with death lenses and it looks like shit.

I prefer the Canon over the Sony, because it can shoot 30i, which I think looks waaay better. Sure, the Sony is sharper and whatnot but I'd rather loose a little sharpness for something that isn't 60i. Plus the VX is too simple it seems. Just the button set up and the way things are done, I just don't like a single part of any of those cams.

The real pimp of all digi cams is Panasonic. They have their shit dialed. DVX is the way to go.

vx 1000 is legendary for filming skating, even transworld still uses them in thier movies. Im partial to them, and will probably trade my gl2 in for a vx 1000 with a death lense and a couple hundred dollars.

I didnt say that its physically impossible to use the vx in cold weather, im sure lots of people have used one. What i did say is that they are older, you cant buy a brand new one, so they have a higher probablitiy of breaking or malfunctioning.

Well I know that almost nobody has a TV that can support tru HD (none of that HDV shit). Also HD DVD (h.264 codec instead of MPEG-4) burners and players are a brand new thing, so nobody has them.


Basicly, anything you make will end up in SD unless you watch it on something that supports 1080p, with an HD DVD player and you burn it to an HD DVD using an HD DVD specific DVD burner.


HD isn't at all sensible yet. YEs its better and obviously sicker but theres just not enough people who can even experiance it without going to the cinema and watching a 35mm flick.

but thats merely opinion. i think many people would insert the panasonic dvc30 possible in front of the vx. That is of course just opinion on the look of the footy.
