alright. I am not a religious person, I don't really believe in god - but I rather believe in science. but really - noone has a fucking clue what brought us here (not just talking humans - talking everything). So I am not asking any religous people out there about god.

where did he come from? what did he exactly create? did he just create earth, or did he creat the whole universe? how far do his powers go? does he have the power to change the universe? does he even have the power to change things invovling people on earth or does he just watch us evolve? I think that's all my questions... mainly I want to know where he came from - where he is - and how far can his powers reach?

i agree with the myth thing in the 2nd post. Im like Darryl, Im a scientific person, I like knowing the physics behind things. But soem things (check the thread about time travle space etc) that we just cant answer. Im not a religious person at all, but maybve theres something of a higher power behind it? whether it be related to whatw e know as 'God' or not.

who says you have to be either religious or scientific? why can't you be both? If you know enough about science you'll know that theres always the unknown. i.e. where did the elements that made the big band come from? so saying you believe in strictly science is fine, but science can't explain everything.

The way I see it God was the spark that set everything in motion (created the big bang). Now he's just chillin with a 40 watching all the shit go down.

I think god just made the big bang and is watching it all happen. I think he exists because that seems to be the only explanation to how the universe was created. One thing that bothers me is what created god?

Religious posts are just stupid and worthless, because no matter what, there will be contradictions and arguing. Nothing can be accomplished by them. They don't belong on NS. If you want to have religious debates, take them elsewhere.

Great idea for a thread Darryl. If someone doesn't really have worthwhile input, just keep it to yourself.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine the other night actually. I look at things from a philosophical standpoint. First of all, if one was to take a Dualist approach (where everything which exists is either material or mental) to things, as I do, it becomes quite apparent that God isn't physical. Humans can only experience physical things through our senses and because of this we can only describe or define things using physical terms or traits. We have no experience with the non-physical or any way of experiencing it. It is for this reason that we cannot define God, we have no way of experiencing him. If one were to experience God, it would be impossible to relate him to others because we use only physical terms.

I myself do believe in God and an afterlife. Please don't call me naive, I'm logical and really seem to think a lot of this subject. I'm not saying this is the ONLY way things have to be, but this is an undefeated approach which I believe.

what i was thinking is that it seems impossible to find out where god came from, but i believe the truth is that since he is a superior being (supposedly, in our culture) we just dont understand how that could be true, since we are raised with the laws of science. We just dont understand what its like, we cant imagine it, but that is because are thoughts are trapped in science. do u get it?

God is something that we can't totaly understand or grasp. I've had my moments and I'm sure other people on here have had them as well. We're you can feel him there. To me thats all the proof I've needed, I used to be hardcore into the scientology shit but whatever floats your boat. Happy Easter

also andy I would much rather know what the best trick God could land, like what he thinks is the best trick. I'm sure he'd be insainly stylie.

yah, God is something that the human mind cannot comprehend. (afterall, they say we only use 10% of our brains) In Christianity at least, God is made up of 3 parts. God the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. Combined, the 3 are God..this is called the Trinity. Well yah, none of this can be scientifically proven...but it takes faith. God knows all, he is the beginning and the end, and the 'alpha and omega'. It's so hard to think about it, because the whole chicken and the egg theory comes in. What was be4 God? Where did he come from? But those arent questions that we should be asking, our minds cant comprehend, just like our minds cant comprehend stuff about our own universe..how do we expect our minds to comprehend God the maker of the universe, if we arent even near knowing anything about our own universe...so yah, no offense to anyone here..but thats my opinon...sorry its so long!:p

Hahaha! Dogma is the best movie! I was watching it with a lot of my EXTREME Christian friends, and they were so pissed. It was way funny. Sorry I bitched about discussing religion. I've had issues with people trying to convert me in the past and big ass religious disputes, so I'm kind of touchy about it. Discuss it if you want. I personally don't believe in a god, but I would like to know how everything and time were started.

Maximumsushi, Saying that god created everything is one of the most ignorant things on the planet. At least have the audacity to find out things that science does explain, and not simply, 'god created everything'. God didnt exist until people started believing in him. Dont get me wrong, i am not a die hard atheist because i believe to dismiss god, makes as much sense as believing in him, because there is no proof either/or.

Never once did I say that this is the way things HAVE to be. I'm very liberal. Just because you believe something, doesn't mean other beliefs cannot exist as well, think about that for a second. Athesism cannot be proven or disproven in the same way thesism cannot.

huckbunni3 made a good point about the trinity adn god's existence and having faith. god's existence is a mystery of the church. nobody knows how he came about. it's unexplainable and that's exactly where faith comes in. god's powers are infinite. god first created the earth and humans, but then he gave human beings free wil through which they choose what they to do. god intended people to use free will for good, but some people misuse and abuse this privelege and don't use it as god intended

I hate it when people say how can you believe in god you'd have to be so dumb, well such people as einstein believed in a god. I personally believe theres a higher power that started this universe, and he is the one who gives us life. I don't believe theres a such thing as hell I believe that the bad decisions you make will make your life that much worse and you'll be closer to living a hell on earth.

as for the god thing, i go to church, but i dont necessarily believe in him/her/it. science cant really officially prove anyting because theyre all jsut theories. theres often an exception to theories, and maybe god is an exception to scientific theories about the universe. im having a hard time explaining my thoughts, so they might not make much sense. anyways, i guess god is just something that hasnt been explained/proven and people can either choose to believe it or not believe it. however, i have a question that maybe someone can answer because i never paid attention in sunday school: who first created the theory of god/the bible/religion/some sort of superiority?

i think god and religion is more a state of mind than a physical thing, i'm not religious myself but have many religios friends and everything they do goes back to church, so i think rather than there being an actualy physical heaven it's more a state of mind, cause newtons first law i think is energy cannot be created or destroyed only changed, so we're made of energy so that energy has to go somewhere weather it's into the earth or somewhere else

Hawkings is a genious but even he can't explain why/what started the big bang.

for the guy who asked, The theory of God has been around for a very long time. Was first written down when jews were in captivity in babalon (sp) before being re-released. That was the first time the books started to be written down. however the idea of God goes back further then we have records of.

i dunno how you expect me to elaborate past 'there's no proof', either way whether god exists or doesnt. The bible isnt considered proof, because any schmuck could have written it. And if there is a deity or supreme being, what makes you say its god? It could be mohammed, budha, anything. Almost all of which have there own little book as proof.

Since you were adressing me I assumed you were calling me ignorant.

I understand what you are saying. I don't mean back things up with proof because that's impossible, I just mean thought or reason.

By saying god, I mean a supreme being, it surely could be any of the above mentioned ones or neither. All of those could be different interpretations of the same being as well.
