Idea...possibly stupid...

Ok, I've wanted a one-peice for awhile now to keep snow n' shit outta my jacket and pants when I eat it, or when there's deep pow and the skirt doesn't work so well...but I don't really like most of the options for one-pieces, and then Helly came out and said we have a jacket+pant interface system to help keep snow out, and it uses snaps...and I started thinking, could you do this with any pant+jacket combo? Cause as far as I know snaps are not hard to install, only thing would be punching holes in your powder skirt, but if you sealed it with something, gorilla glue maybe...would it work and be fine? What do you guys think?

it could work well and what HElly did is nothing too special. BUt it also means that you need a pow skirt that comes down far enough so that you still have the same sag in your pants (presuming u sag emm). u will also need to find a means of ataching the female snap or line to the belt area of the Helly pants. No huge mod, but could be worth doing and itll be alot cheaper than buyin a new suit but if ur due a new suit then the Helly is a good option and i think it zips off into a two peice or buttons off or somthing. Anyways hope that helps, Im about to buy the matching pants for the Helly hansen convergent jacket because they have that intergrated system. Good luck

The best idea I've seen is from Volcom. They run a zipper about 300 degrees around the back and sides of the pants and powder skirt. The only open area is the front so you have access to you pant and jacket zippers (and, presumably, your junk.).

That does sound better, I actually thought about a zipper in the first place, but wasn't sure how feasible it would be, because to my knowledge you have to sew it on, and I dunno if you could that a keep good waterproofing...but I did like the zipper idea better...do you think it would work, and how well the stuff would still keep water out after being sewn through?

wow a zipper is a actually a sweet a doable idea if you put on side on teh bottom of the pow skirt and the other side on the top of the pants... damn that'd be dope. if you aren't a master of sewing snaps might be easier but either way thats a cool idea try it and take some pics!!

They make special waterproof zippers. Most ski jackets with visible zippers have them. They have something that acts like seam tape on top of the zipper so when you close them up they seal. I don't know, however, if you can get that kind of zipper at a fabric store. Zippers are also incredibly hard to sew if you don't know what you're doing.

Yeah...for sure...I'd just get my aunt to do it, she's a master at that shit...she like makes clothes and stuff when she can't find what she wants...just buys the pattern and sews it up herself...so I could get her to do it for me...I was just asking if once you sewed it...the holes put in the fabric by the needle/thread would let moisture in?

yea it might let a tiny bit in but probably not even that, and even if it did it'd be a lot less than the gaps between snaps would let in. i'm thinkin about tryin this too now it sounds dope i think i'll try on some old shit first to see how much i suck at sewing the last time a sewed a zipper was in home ec. in like 7th grade

Go to the hardware store and get some teflon tape. You usually use it for plumbing (so there are no leaks at joints), but I should work with clothes.

ummm teflon tape wont work it isn't actually adhesive, you put it on threads and stuff, I used it a lot with paintball guns. but yea it doesn't actually stick to something on it's own it's actually mad slippery (like teflon spray).

Yeah, Teflon is a no-go...any other ideas for taping or sealing it?

Didn't know that. There's got to be something in that same line of products that is adhesive, though.
