ski edges

does anyone tune there skies here ? i here some people dull the for rails? if you doing alot of rials is it bad for them to be sharp?also does any one else wax there skies when i dont i cant get enough speed for the jumps??

I dont wax my skis cuz i'm getting new ones. But it will help them last.
Also having dull edges just makes it less likely to catch a front edge on a rail.

the only edge that needs to be dulled is the inside of your back ski, thats the most likley to catch, but after a month of rails your edges will be so soft and dull that it wont matter

when my edges get really dull i just use a file and a whetstone to get the burrs off and clean em up a little.

I just stopped caring

i ended up waxing my skis once all year iron on, once rub on, NO edge maintence. every pair is so messed up. oh well.


your edges should be just dull enough so they don't take a layer off your finger nail

a layer off your finger nail when you rub it against the edge (at any angle) however I hate this feeling like rubbing them against a chalkboard

there is a few methdods to sharpen edges

if you're lazy get like a pre-angled deal and just rub that on the edges

if not, well, learn it the real way.

are you serious... takes a long time...???!!! 1 minute of serious work and your edges will be at liek a 45 degree angle, when i wax my skis the iron dosent even touch the edges under my boots

I've got a wax pass at my local shop. i bought skis, so I get free wax and tunes for a year. yeah

How does Taco Bell shrink mini-ninjas, hide them in the bean burritos, and then cue them to kick my insides out approx. 2 hours after eating?

sharp edges might make it easier to catch an edge...but unless your gonna get new equipment soon, keep you shit waxed...make friends with techs at your hill/shop...Dont sharpen to much, unless you wanna get your base ground, which sometimes is an unfortunate part of east coast life - i.e. whiteface

i do all my own repairs and maintenance, i think it's safe to say the majority of people on here do, i think you could set your self up with the stuff to do everything for about 100 bucks, and then just go to the shop and they'll show you how

If you put a nice hard wax on there often I would think that the life of your skis would be extended by quite a bit. Just a thought.......

u don't really need to dull ur edges cause like everyone said already, after you hit some rails a couple times you will be fine... with wax, it all about choosing the right temp wax... there are a lot of wide range waxes that are good for like multi purpose, i know a bunch of companies put out like a spring wax and shit like that, but to get the best glide outta your skis and best performance outta your wax, choose the right temp... if you are gonna wax, just check what the expected temps of the day your gonna ski next and wax with that temp wax... the wax comes off pretty much in a couple runs anyways but it will help protect your bases and let em last longer... hope that helped
