what newschool has become

It just hit me today that new school has become pretty lame. The cool aspect of the sport has been lost. I remember back in the day like 3 years ago when newschool was so new and exciting. Now it seems to be turning into snowboarding or skating. And after reading that post on the future of skiing i have decided to get out of the newschool scene and go back to real skiing. This fad is getting old.

ski why you want to ski, the scene is changing, no doubt about it. I mean this whole rap afluance over the past two seasons has already really changed the sport. Remember 13 or Degenerats? Back then the sport had this whole fun screw around feel to it, now it's got this bad ass mother fucker wana be like samual l feel to it. Whatever, I still ski because I love skiing, love how cool the guys/gals I get to ride with are. The sport will change but the people getting involved are still the same, they just pretend to fit in with whats going on around them. Whatever thats cool as long as you don't write them all off and say the sport is dying because it's on ESPN and someone is doing an old spice commercial or something sell out like that. Our sport needs the money anyway

Its just annoying attitude that those kinda ppl have though. It's like if you don't have the top of the line skis then u must suck. They prolly didn't even start skiing until they saw freeskiing. I've basically been skiing since i was 3 and even when I was younger, I'd hit those tiny jumps because I thought it was fun. Now I hit bigger jumps cause it's fun and now I get little kids telling me that I suck. I don't laugh at kids who fall when they jump straight airs, instead i give them a few tips to help them stay balanced and the older, more mature guys will help me do the same thing. I have nothing against other kids starting to freeski cause that's totally cool as long as they have the right attitudes about it. Like other people have been saying, with things like this, soon there are going to be more johnny moselys which really sucks because he's just in it for publicity and money. Nothing more.

in attempt to preserve atleast ns.com (not the entire newschool scene), i suggest that we stop letting people become new members on this site. 95% of these new members are not true to the sport. if they desperately want to become a member, they can write matt harvey an essay on why they should become a member. also, any member who has not logged in for 6 months, theyre membership should be deleted. i have not thought about this theory much, and i havent thought of the side effects, but this is just my general theory on what ns should do to preseve this site. i want ns to stay somewhat secluded, especially to the people who are going to ruin it in the future. i think matt harvey has done more than his share for this sport, by creating newschoolers.com, and special effort needs to be made to preserve ns.com. if anyone agrees, disagrees or has any suggestions to my theory then post them on this thread.

to not let new people join ns would be absolutly ridiculous. that really comes back to the 'don't give people shit for posting crappy 3's on the site'. without the chance to become a part of the sport, they will never be able to be true to it or otherwise. after all we all started somewhere so how would you have felt if someone had denied you access to a membership. the idea about the 6months is not a bad one. it would probably cut down the loading times for the site and videos (that may be totally wrong, i'm not very computer literate...forgive me)

shortskichick, I am sorry that some kids are just so stupid.
Because your mommy didn't buy you top of the line equipment then that means you must suck.
What the hell is their problem?
Or hasseling someone because they aren't throwing as big of tricks as they are.
Personally, I could care less if somoene can throw a d-spin - that doesn't earn my respect.
Some kids out there are great in the park, but they are complete assholes (some pros included), and I would rather hang around a kid learning 360's who's out there having a good time and because he loves it.
My philosophy is still to help anyone and everyone, I'll give pointers to complete strangers if they are willing to listen.
It takes about the same effort to help someone have a good day as it does to wreck it for them.
Why not keep it positve and fun for everyone?

GhettoPrep - I completely understand where you are coming from.
freestyle skiing for you has lost that specialness to it and it happens to all of us.
It no longer is exciting and new like it used to be.
But I encourage you to give it a second chance.
Take a break from it for a while and do whatever is fun for you. Because skiing is about freedom and good times - so ski however you want to.
Don't give up on it though. Maybe sometime next year go into the park and blur out everyone. Blur out the people watching. It's just you and the jump. Hit it however you want to and just keep it fun. That's what freestyle skiing was intended to be - FREE. Free from heavy regulations and limits. Free from all that crap.
It was started when a group of guys wanted to break away from the aerial/racing/mogul scene and just go down the mountain as they chose to.
Everything that we do is bound to lose the feel of specialness that we once had. If you revisit an amusement park that you've gone to 15 times, it is not going to be as nostalgic as it was the first time.
Try new things, Add some variety, maybe even take a break from it all for a while, and take it back to the days when it was just you and the mountain.
But please, don't give up on something you once loved just because you've lost the feel for it.

I couldnt agree with you more Ghost. Ive been skiing all my life but have only recently got into 'Newschool.' Ill admit i cant do really anything in the park yet and thats why it blows me away to hear that little 7th grade punks talk shit becuase they are better.
yes i think your tight because you can throw a rodeo or a misty but you earn my respect if you take a second too help me advance down that same path.
I get excited whenever i see any skier in the park becuase they are contributing to the progress of our sport. We should encourage eachother and not rip eachother.
Not being able to speak is not the same as not speaking. You seem as if you like to talk. I like to let people talk who like to talk. It makes it easier to find out how full of shit they are.

so be the example. If the people out there are helping each other out it will do nothing but help our sport. I know it gets hard when you are in the competition circut because you still want to beat the people you are skiing against but who cares. If you are out there helping people you're name will carry way more weight to it then if you are being a dick. And who knows, maybe one of the guys/gals you help will turn around and help someone else, maybe they will turn into the next tanner hall and will remember how you helped them out at the start. I duno, just help people out. I try to as much as I can when I'm out riding.

Anybody remember Powder magazine before the revolution? That was skiing, not hype. I think after the hype and the growth, people'll will really start doing it for themselves. Then shit'll really go off (remember Andrew Sheppard's 360 mute in RAP's Snow Drifters? That wasn't 'progress', that was just a rad fucking trick, and the only thing that made him do it was the fact that he could, not some sort of ethics of progression).
I want to ski.
