Give up Basketball for skiing?

So freshman year is fast aproaching and that means that winter is not to far away, which means two things, basketball and skiing. This year im not really excited for basketball. Ive been playing since 4th grade and last year it was starting to lose its fun and get really boring. This year I can either suck it up and play or if I dont play, I will be able to get a job and go skiing ALOT more(I only got 5 days in last year). Im not sure what to do. Has anyone out there given up a sport for skiing and really regretted it afterwards? I know im the only one who can make this decision but I wanna hear some input.

You can ski til your 80 but can only play high school basketball til your 18. In the long run you won't miss the skiing but you will miss the opportunity you had to play on your highschool team. Unless you don't like playing ball, i wouldnt quit.

I know what your sayin but basketball is getting so boring and repetitive. I also play Lacrosse and I fucking love it. I started both in 4th grade and Lacrosse is still wiked fun and basketball is losing its appeal fast.

I was debating the same thing, and as i am going to be playing varsity this year, i probably wont get much playing time. so i was thinking about quiting for skiing, but then i realized i can ski on weekends, and our ski area sucks really bad anyways. and plus sitting the bench this year will pay off for playing in big games at home when i am a senior and having everyone cheer. but thats just me

i would never give up another sport for skiing, but skiing is my sport and life. but for some people it's different. you should try basketball for at least this year, and you still may be able to ski everynow and then. depends on if skiing is what you love, or something you just like to do.

If it's getting boring think about taking a year off, it's only freshmen ball right? Played all through school and after a while basketball seemed like a job more than a sport. so I took a year off in college and focused on school, drinking and skiing. Started playing more the following year and it seemed fun again. Walked onto the team the next year and rode the bench, but playing and to some extent practice was fun again.

i wold deffiitlygive it up, i got about 90 days in last year and the season felt ay way to short. but at the same time skiing for me is life and my entire life eds up revolving around it, even the crative things we ave to do in school reflect it for me so for me i would give up a lot in the way of other sports for skiing but thats a personal preferance.
you have to decide if th basketball is really worth it, and if quitting for skiing would be something that would be worth it in the long run, for me i say it deffinitly would but thats just cause skiing is my life during the winter.

If it's becoming "like meh" then I'd definitely drop that shit and go skiing.
I gave up horse-back riding in college for skiing -- not even to just go skiing more, to learn to ski -- which was hard. I was working for my riding lesson, because my parents didn't want to pay for it, and it's something that I've wanted to do, but haven't had the (parental) support to do, since I was like six. I miss it sometimes, yeah, and wonder what it would've been like if I'd kept riding. Especially in these summer months. If I'd kept up with riding that's probably what I'd be doing now instead of sitting on my ass posting on a skiing forum online. But when I hit the hill in the winter and do something dope and new? Fuck I don't miss riding, not one bit.

haha, you're probably gonna get a fairly biased answer in here...
here's sheldons two cents;
I play basketball. A lot. Bad thing is, baskeball season happens to be right during the winter. All of the time and commitment I've put into my other passion would not allow me to give it up, same as I would not be able to give up skiing.
During the season, it's 6 days a week, games on friday night and saturday. That leaves one day for skiing, fuck I'll take it. My season ends right before spring break, so that's nice.
the point I'm trying to make here is do both.

yeah man. im in like the exact same situation as you except that im a junior and have already been on the team for 2 years. i could probably play varsity this year but im not gonna play and im gonna ski twice a week. im really happy because basketball was taking over my life, i really couldnt do anything else without my coaches getting mad or it affecting basketball in some way. high school basketball is much more intense (at least in DC) and you really have to ONLY play basketball to be good. you dont soud like you love it that much so i would just go with skiing if you love that more. i am quitting and im very happy

oh, should have read more than the title.
You don't like basketball, aren't getting much PT, and are having more fun skiing, then go ski.
I'm all for doing what you love the most, I just happen to like each sport equally.
so, here's my 2 cents, again;
fuck basketball go shred my son

I gave up soccer for skiing and i will say that i miss it. I dont regret my decision but i do sometimes wish i had tryed harder to make them both work at the same time. The way i see it if you have been doing a sport for that long, nearly all your life its worth it to see it threw. I started skiing at 4 and soccer at 5. They were both inportant to me but i had to chose what i thought i would love more and i went with skiing. For you id say: why not try to make both work, its hard but in the long run i think you will be happyer

if you did both you wouldnt ski much, thats not cool. But i know if i gave up basketball when i was older i would regret it. Think of it this way, which sport would you be practicing for yourself and nobody else, which one do you really enjoy personally and practice for,not to showoff.

well your on a skiing site, so everyone is goin to say give up bball. so im goin to say give up bball. and if your getting bored of bball then go skiing more. and hey you only miss one season of bball or skiing either way. but you can play bball in the summer you cant ski, well you cant ski for cheap.

I'm giving up hockey this year, for two reasons...skiing, and my body cant handle all the sports I do. I used to do skiing, hockey, soccer (Travel 4+ times a week), volleyball, and I swim in the summer a lot. My knees couldn't handle everything so I'm stopping hockey and volleyball. So this means more skiing cuz I wont be to hurt to go to the hill. But if basketball is your only sport, dont quit..unless u hate it

i wish i stuck with high school basketball, not because of the sport, but because of the tons of good times i would have had on the road trips with friends. giving it up did mean that i got to ski more tho.

dude... i gave up basketball for skiing back in middle school. and i personally, dont regret it. my dads friend and i had this huge talk when i was deciding whether or not to give it up, and he told me that your friends you make skiing and skiing is something youll have for a lifetime, but basketball is just something small in your life. stick with skiing. just find a sport in the fall or spring that you enjoy, thats what i did
