Your probably thinking wtf. But I had always buckeled up my boot, then straped the velcro power strap at the top. A guy the other day told me to strap down the velcro strap first, then buckel.... Does it matter?
buckle then strap. then buckle tighter. then strap tighter. then buckle tighter. then strap tighter. you're good to go as soon as you can't feel your toes.
another good thing to do when your buckling is push down the tounge of the liner so your heel is firmly in place...picked it up in a CSIA course.. so it must be good for something
You should buckle 3rd down, then 2nd down (Positions your heel better) then bottom one (To secure foot) then top, then finally Strap which should be firmly secured.
Thats what racing tought me anyway, freestyle probably doesn't matter at all but when just skiing around I'm pretty sure thats the correct way.*
You need to strap using the powerstrap first. But, do not put it on the outside fo the boot....put it under the plastic so that it only holds the liner. The point of the powerstrap is to hold the top of the boot to your let....the line is what is important because a space there will cause shin bang. So, after the powerstrap is done up around the liner only, strap the top buckle, and move down, only buckling on the first place possible. Once all buckles are fastened, then start back up at the top and tighten one at a time. If you jump up to real tight, it can easily cause cramps and push your foot to funny positions in the boot. The top buckles are the important ones as they are the ones that hold your foot back and the bottom buckles should just be a thumbs tightness. If you can't buckle the bottom buckles with your thumb, they are too tight.
i'd listen to this man. especially about putting the powerstrap underneath the plastic part... i tried this out last year and basically eliminated my shin bang.
I buckle the one closes to the toe then the one a little higher and keep doing those two untill there tight then the lowest one on the shin then the top on and do those 2 untill there tight then the strap
i always buckle first. but i really dont even tighten my boots. i leave them loose as shit. when i was out west skiing in the trees i would but when im just playing in the park i barely even buckle that shit
actually this is quite a usefull thread, the post the boot fitter made aft maybe? about putting the strap under the plastic, i never knew this, and is one of the few things i learned on ns this summer.
i do up the foot buckles pretty tight but i don't do up the top (ankle) ones. i then do up the strap as loose as it goes. haven't gotten shin splints for 2 years and have amazing "flexability" in em. yupp.
Its what all the old instructors do where I teach, and I find that it works good.
Your boots should be semi-loose for your warm up, just so your feet settle in. Then crank them until they are tight.
I always do up my power strap tight right away, its too much adjusting to do out on the hill becuase you have to pull the snowcuff thing on your pants up.
this is exactly what u should do, i didnt used to do that but after i started doing it it feels so much better than before, no shin bang and makes skis and boots more responsive and feel lighter.
you buckle up so its kinda tight. then you strap really tight so that your top buckles are loose again. then you buckle them so that they're tight again. then you re-strap the strap so that its tight again.
the tighter you do up ur boots, the less you hurt your feet if you land wrong. (it also makes ur stance better)
is there anything wrong with buckeling my boots super tight? like i dont lose circulation but i put them as tight as they will go. is it better looser?
everybody has their own style, and what that "bootfitter" said is pretty much bullshit. Do it the way it works for you. I have to do my boots a certain way, its like a ritual for me. If i do it wrong, or someone fucks with me while im doing it, i know i am gonna have a bad day.
Oh really. That is funny. So, how many professionals have trained you? How do you know what I am saying is Bullshit? Cause you know, the whole canadian international ski team doesn't do it this way...or wait....the US team for that matter either. Oh wait, you know so much more than them...I'm sorry. I mean, I only learned this from the guy who fits the entire International Canadian race team to their boots and has been doing it for 30 years. BUt, you being 16 and all, you know so much more. Yeah, don't listen to me...what I'm saying is bullshit and isn't used by the best skiers in the sport.
You made a damn good post earlier, and what you said about bootfitting should work really well for most skiers. However, racing is very different from freeskiing, and it is true that some people do it their own way and that's just what works best for them. Your opinions are valid, but don't shove them down peoples' throats.
