i really hope all of you are joking! if not, god help us all!!
1)political views (canadians tend to be more leftist than americans)
2)outlook on the world (americans see themselves as the centre of the world)
3)worldly knowledge (watch rick mercer's talking with americans)
4)manners (yes the stereotypes are true, canadians are more polite than americans)
there are others but that's what i took 2 minutes to think about.
btw before you all start bashing me, these are generalizations of the american and canadian people and in no way reflect 100% of the population of the respective countries.

there are many different kinds of americans and canadians. ther is no way you can compare them all. the border is just a line drawn on a map, not the berlin wall.

your completly right, like you sayed it doesnt reflect the whole country, but a stereotype has to reflect a large portion to be a stereotype

just remember, america is huge. an east coaster is wayyy different than someone from the west. people that live 5 hours away from me have a huge accent (western ny compared to nyc). although its surprising, there are major cultural differences throughout america even if you are all white lets say. manners vary, knowledge varies, everything changes. i find that people in towns/rural areas are extremely polite as compared to people 30min away that live in the city who are just plain ignorant assholes

That video was retarted. He only showed the responses from the people who answered how he wanted them to. That video was about as unbiased as a micheal moore film or fox news.

Only one of those are even accepable.
1. Yes
2. No you are not even close to right. Some Americans are like that, but most are realisticly inclined to what impact we do have on the world and what the world thinks of us.
3. I have seenthem do this in Candian cities too. You are retarded for even beleiving this to be true. They did a thing in Toronto ,I believe, and nobody knew where Iran was.
4. Stereotypes are never true, that's why they are called stereotypes and not facts.

its a simple recipe:
- extroversion
- individualism
- violence
- and a pinch of arrogance
= money. and power.
but maybe the americans have it right?

Pipe Munky has those stereotypes right. #1 was obvious, #2 Look at world affairs the US sticks their nose into everything, look at world treaties, they couldnt give a shit about any other country but their own they refuse to take setbacks by passing international treaties that could have minor negative effects on them for the better of the world. Look at what they are doing in the middle east, look at their stance on child fucking labour, look at their stance on missile testing and nukes. I dont see how that can even be argued against. Canada on the other hand is one of the strongest supporters of the UN. #3, you have even said yourself in other threads that the US is way behind in geography compared to other countries because they dont teach much of anything about other countries in the world. so you are contradicting yourself. I also have friends throughout the states such as in Connecticut and friends from up here who are in or were in Ivy League Schools in the US such as Cornell and Penn State and they were surprised to find out that the majority of people there had no idea where Ottawa was when they asked them where they were from, because they never talked about Canada in school, so they had generally had little to no knowledge of canada. 4. Pipe Munky has it right, stereotypes are where it reflects the majority. To defend his point, Americans are widely known when travelling out of the country to tell everyone they are canadian, because americans have a piss poor reputation as being rude, whereas canadians have a polite and laid back reputation, so americans say they are canadian so they can get better service. now like pipe munky said, these are just some of the differences between Canadians and Americans using stereotypes and actions of the governments in recent years.

I've traveled a bit. You can usually tell an American tour group because they're cockier and more independent than others. Americans don't hang closely with the tour guides and would rather wander around and look at things at their own will. Canadians, however, are definitely the second cockiest and most independent. You can usually tell a Canadia tour group because they're more independent and they're all wearing Canadian flag shirts. And Canadians tend to be a little more "polite." (course, politeness is relative. Americans very rarely consider ourselves to be unpolite. We've just got a little more presumptuous culture.) As countries go, America and Canada are extrememly similar.

Wow, so you're basing the government actions as the general consensus of the people? Good job, you are a dumbass. Let's look at Bush's approval rating. It's in the 30 percentile. That shows the majority is not agreeing with the government policies at the precise moment. When we don't stick our nose into something we are evil. When we go into a country we are war mongering oil lovers. Good job on generalizing too, it makes you sound extremely ignorant to say "they" and use it in a general direction of the US population. You know nothing about the different opinions here in the US, please stop trying. During UN operations, who contributes the most troops to foreign aid and foreign militaristic problems? Yup, the US.
How the hell am I contradicting myself by saying the US population lacks in one aspect of education? I said there was one thing wrong with education...wow. Canada probably has a georaphy problem too. Penn state is not an Ivy league school. I'm sure your friends were basing their opinions off of one instance. You have to be very knowledgable to get into an Ivy league school, or have a really really large amount of money.
Stereotypes and generalizations are the same thing. Reputation is not the same thing. In generalizations and stereotypes, a group is defined by the actions of few or some of the members. You can't say a stereotype only applys to some.
Next time before you try to call me out, don't use stereotypes, they really do make you look stupid.

No reason is lack of time and the society we live in. Nobody is forced to go to McDonald's. Why do they? Because it's fast and relatively cheap.
