So who's gonna have the best pipe in PA this year....anybody heard of anything new comin round? I really want to ride a lotta pipe this year but I'm afraid its going to be more of the same garbage...I know weather is a factor, but camelback seems to maintain a pretty decent surface, even though their pipe is miniature....so...help a brotha out! Whats New?
i really dont know.. but ive heard rumors that jack frost is gettin their long lost pipe back this season.. but then again, its just a rumor..can anyone confirm this?
there are pretty much no good pipes in PA. bear's was decent here and there last year, blue's was good 2 days out of the whole season. MC's (NJ) was shaped well but real icy. your solution is go to vermont.
Camelback is building a new pipe and has a new pipe cutter. They seem to be really committed. It would stand to reason that since this is their first year with this new pipe and since they have a park pass program and since they are under new owner ship and since they announced early that they will be under pressure to do it right and maintain it.
They have this season to show an improvement compared to previous years, if they don't notch thier park(s) they are going to be permanently branded for many more season to come.
finally the truth comes out, and not only do you have to cosistanly cut it, you have to cut it well, you may have the best peice of equipment but if the guy in the cat doesnt know didly you end up with a taco.
You gotta have the weather and the dedication too. The problem with Blue last year was that the brand new pipe cutter groomer broke after the first use. Then it got warm and they didn't have enough depth to cut. Then this, then that. Pretty soon it was March. Bear Creek had similar problems as I understand it cuz their pipe didn't really get going all season long. Nor did Blues IMO.
Dedication is really the key. Any area in the mid-atlantic that doesnt take into account poor weather is just stupid. if an area blows just enough to geta pipe or park open and then doesnt follow up with more snow is asking for trouble and SHOULD know better. too many times our resorts become better at making excuses than they do at making snow and maintaining terrain.
