hello, i am from new york in america. i was thinking of taking a trip to switzerland this winter, and was wondering what some of the better resorts are. if you guys have any information, it would be incredibly helpful. i am not looking just for the bext park, but more of who has the best overall mountain. thanks you.
You can't go wrong with zermatt or saas fee. these are big resorts, both have a good park and good overall riding possibilieties. laax is also one of the most known in Switzerland. One of the best parks and the resort were the orage european open took place. also good backcountry and slopes. My home resorts are adelboden and meiringen-hasliberg. adelboden is a smaller resort, so it's less crowded and it has in my opinion one of the best parks, but no pipe. backcountry is decent. meiringen-hasliberg has great backcountry opportunities and also a good park. in the french part of switzerland verbier is the most famous. There is also Les Crosets, which is the swiss part of Portes du Soleil, the biggest resort of europe.
But Switzerland is small, so you can easily go from one resort to the next resort within at most 4 hours.
To learn more about the resorts just google them. they all have a informative webpage in english.
For backcountry Engelberg and Andermatt are also great, but small areas, not so many lifts.
Lenzerheide is also a big resort with a lot of lifts and some nice backcountry possibilities.
One of my favorites is Grindelwald because of its great panorama. There you can find a lot of lifts, too.
In Davos you can choose between several ski areas, but they are not connected, but in a few minutes you can reach them with the free skibus. Also one of my favorites.
Verbier = Freeride paradise, also the pists and the park are very nice. The area is very large.
Laax is ok. There are a lot of lifts and there's the best park with a (generally) perfect shaped pipe (or two, or three, depends on season).
But for skiing on pists and backcountry it is not my favorite, most of the area is not really steep.
if you want some good back country don't go to the big resorts (verbier, porte du soleil, ect) go to the "family resorts" where no one goes off piste. other wise it is a rush to even get one run in. that is my opinion
^ya.. or backside usually is the best skiing you are going to find.. It is true they don't get a lot of snow.. but when they do it seams to come in big dumps.
laax.. everyone says zermatt and saas just cause theyre famous. dont listen thoguh cause theyre just packed with a bunch of fucking tourists who wanna see the matterhorn and what not. laax laaax laax. they have a nice parkkk.
it´s so sick try all kicker and you´re super pro!!!
HEY next season my parent gave me a trip to saas fee as a gift!!YEAH
I think it´s also worth to go there for the landscape but the park in laax is too sick!!
