Just wanted to share with you guys what was possibly one of the best weekends of my life. And before i really get into the story of the weekend, let me just say that i have the coolest friends ever.
So anyways, about 25 of my friends, and I all went up to Fryeburg Maine friday-sunday for a camping/pirate adventure. I really didn't know what to expect, but was pretty sure it would be fun. Our group set out friday night on this contraption of a pirate raft
Dubbed "Pirate Raft" (real clever huh?) it was built from 3 canoes, 4 barrels, plywood, and 2x4's. Our plan was to dress up as pirates (only about half did, but my friend Matt went as Captain Jack Sparrow: see pics below) and raft down the Saco river over the course of the weekend covering about 12 miles of river. (drinking and pillaging of course) There are huge beaches all along the river which made excellent camping spots.
Unfortunately we ended up waiting untill about 9pm friday night for everyone to show up, and had to set sail in the dark. We made our way down the river about a 1/2 mile and made camp. We all had a few beers, a campfire, and just chilled. The next morning we broke down camp, and set out to cover about 6 miles of river for the day. As you can imagine, we were quite a sight floating down the river, which is populated by 100's of tourists and campers every day. There was an abundance of onlookers. Since not everyone could fit on the raft itself we had to bring along canoes, and my rowboat which served as the dinghy. We basically had our own fleet, with the Pirate Raft being the main vessel. We ended up covering about 9 miles of river because all of the beaches we came to were too full to fit our crew, and had to keep heading downriver to find a place to camp.
Once we made camp saturday night we broke out the booze and had a nice pirate party. Smores, lots of Rum, burgers and dogs... great times. We all slept in a little later sunday, and with our hangovers almost gone, set sail around 11am. We reached the landing point at about 2pm, loaded up all of our gear and had a farewell lunch at a mexican restaraunt. Then everyone went their seperate ways. I really cant' describe in words how amazing this weekend was, and my synopsis really doesnt do it justice. The included pics are just the ones that i have available to me. There are many more, and much better ones that i might add once i get them from the other people.
My friend Matt, i mean, Captain Jack Sparrow
Me and my girlfriend dressed as pirates
Like i said, we were quite a sight. (take note of the grill, we spared no expense)
Me, and view of the river
Barb & I at camp
My sexy swash-buckling girlfriend
These ladies, i mean wenches, stayed in my tent. Just the 3 of us.
We got real friendly on night # 2 because on of the sleeping bags got soaked, so we zipped the remaining 2 together, and all shared. Which worked out well because it was really cold that night.
Why is the Rum gone?
