what are you running for? i was running for soccer and i would run for like 2-5 miles at a time. i cant play though, my knees are too screwed up. i have to spend a bunch of time in physical therapy and doing exercises.
your gonna have to learn to be relaxed while running before you go long distances. most people run tense. just relax and go at a comfortable speed. otehrwise if your tense, your abs will probably tighten and cramp. this is something i am working on and i have discovered how much it helps to be relaxed. eitehr way, peak speed or endurance you'll need to learn this....unless you've already mastered this part of running although i doubt it.
well i just want to start running as a hobbie/get in better shape, so more for endurance then. i'm not in super bad shape, i ran a 8:00 min mile bout 2 months ago.
your first distance should be 3 or 4 miles. if you can try and run with somebody else, you can run at least double the distance you would by yourself. If you really wanna get in good shape, you should run long distances two days a week. gradually build up your milage. its all about how you feel. good luck. im in hell week right now for my cross country team and it sucks, we did 13 yesterday and 10 today, not fun
hey man..no offense, but i would def try to improve on an 8 minute mile try starting off about 2 miles at a comfortable speed three days a week and then run farther and/or do it in less time. good luck!
For a first timer I definitely wouldn't recommend 3-4 just starting out. Easy way to hurt yourself, especially if you run to hard. Start with 1 or 2 and see how you feel, if you feel better to another. Don't run too hard, depending on your natural ability I would say maybe like a 7:20 mile pace for 1-2 and see how you feel, go from there. Running with other people is a good idea, just don't push it too hard too soon...I speak from experience after training too hard too early and stress fracturing both femurs lol just take it easy and don't kill yourself every day.
I dont mean to be an ass, but if you are running an 8 minute mile (for just one mile), you are pretty out of shape and don't want to start real big. Just start with 2 miles a couple days and see how you feel, just to get to know your body and whatnot, then you can start to gauge for yourself how far you want to go. Also, be sure to have good shoes, drink plenty, and stretch before and afterwards. Ive made the mistake of not stretching after soccer and it comes back to bite you in the ass the next morning. I would recommend doing a cool down the last quarter mile and then stretch for 10 mins when you are done and then stretch again in 40 mins.
thats about all from here
it depens what kind of runner you are, or are training to be. For cross country I run for like 45 minutes with surges "sprints" mixed in... though to start out just try running miles at a decent time(6-7 minutes I guess is decent if you dont run competitively)? Im not real sure
if you are brand new to running I would start with running for 30 mins at a comfortable pace. Then after a week add 5 mins and the next week. After you get about a months worth of a running base built you can start doing real workouts or try some different things. Try to get to the level so that you can run for 50-55 mins at a steady pace and be comfortable.
yeah, 8 min is o.k. i guess, probably above avg. but im sureyou could improve on that pretty easily
in like 5th grade i had a 7 min. mile, but then like the next 2 years i only got 7 min. but then this past year i just tried a little harder and got a 5:45 so if you start running longer distances, you could easily shave a few minutes off that time
join ur schools cross country team. It may seem like they run a lot but you get used to it real fast. I started freshmen year and havent been in better shape since. My teams is ok so we like run 5 miles on average and like 8 on hard days.
