University of MN and Ski Areas

what ski areas are around the uni? I'm thinking of going here but I want skiing nearby. I mapquested spirit and hyland cause those are the ski resorts that i hear about. it said spirit is like 2hours 15minutes away and hyland is like 20-30 minutes away. does anyone know?

depends where you are living if youre in st. paul hyland is closer then that. i dont know where your from but if you like park and really fast rope tows then hyland is where its at.

um i live in wisconsin and i have the special tuition cause mn ans wi have that deal and it would be twice as expensive to go to boulder

yeah in state tuition or whatever is a big plus. if you are coming to minnesota at all this summer just check out hyland hills, it is no more than 20 minutes away from the u of m and it has a very nice park, but im not sure how it compares to tyrol n cascade, which i think is like 5 minutes from u of madison.

tyrol and cascade would be more like 30 to 40 minutes and wouldn't be as good as hyland. you said to check out hylands park in the summer you mean just the park as a whole. not terrain park correct

hyland is 20 minutes away. the ski club doesnt do anything around here it just allows you to get a cheap trip out west over winter or spring break.

university of st thomas. their business school is very good(secound to carlson) but is more relaxed.

yeah, the ski club doesnt do much but take cheap-as-fuck trips out west and party. which isnt a bad thing. im running it this year, and i really want to try and get some type of shuttle/bus/ride to the different places around the area. but even if i cant get that set up, join the club. we throw some sweet parties (i have a wet bar in my basement) and you can go out west over winter break for a week for around $500. check out the website (http://www.sscumn.org/) and get on the email list, ill get the site updated soon here and get shit going. as i said before, i really want to try and promote local skiing, even if its just posting on the forum that you are going to a hill and have an extra seat in your car.

but back to your question, hyland is sweet, but you really have to want to ski park. they usually have sick jumps, rails are ok. but if you actually want to ski (ie make turns, ski longer than 400 ft) you have to go to afton alps, welch village, or spirit mtn. i guess trollhaugen isnt too bad, but ive never been there. spirit's a ways away (2 hrs north) but in my opinion its got the best riding. the runs are long by midwest standards, and their park is pretty legit.
