the other day i had to do a system restore, then after i did it i had no internet connection (wireless card for a dell laptop), the status said i had to re-new my IP address, does anyone know where to go from there?

all i can think of is to go to the internet connection panel in the control panel (ithink) and hit repair, i think...

start > run > cmd

then type:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

hey i tried it but it said nothing could be done to the Local Area Connection while it is disconnected, so any other ways?

oh you're on a wireless network... i dont know much about those to be honest, do you have a WEP enabled?

no, i dont think so, i tryed switching to enable a WEP in the properties but then it just changes back to disabled

well dont try to enable the WEP key unless you know what it is. its essentially a password for your wireless router so that only computers you want can use it for the internet. there's no sense setting that up if you cant even connect to the internet without it.

well im assuming you havnt touched your router so it is more than likely a (easily fixable) problem with your laptop, so calling your internet company wouldnt really do you much good. im sure a fellow NSer will have better knowledge of the situation and try to help you eventually

maybe you need to dowload the software for your wireless network again. That always works on my laptop when I have problems connecting.

System Restore has been known to screw up drivers and stuff. Try reinstalling the driver for your wireless card.
