k i have looked in all the little effect things and i have not found out how to make like those little flashes that look so cool and its probably somewhere really obvious and i just havent seen it yet but if anyone works with this program and knows where it is could you tell me please thanx...

The way I've done it is to cut the clip where you want the flash and then put fade out to fade in really fast. There's probably an easier way but this gets the job done.

when i do that effect, i cut the clip and put a super short clip of white inbetween, then fade in and out quickly

have video layer 1 (with the video on it) above video layer 2 and just have blank white screen on video 2.. then just cut 1/2sec or less clips out of the video.. no need to splice stuff between..
