ive read a few things on the measureing of k2, but just to make sure cuz im wondering, my pes are 169 so would they be like 172-174 in other brands like line?
I have 169 PEs and 169 1080 Vincent dorion Pros. The PEs are about 2-3 cm longer. 169 is the exact measurement from tip to tail. I think salomon measured the 169 when the material for the ski was flat or soemthing like that. So either the 1080s are 166-167 or the PEs are 171-172.
I held my 179 pistols up to 187 MSPs, and they were only about 4 cm taller than the pistols. K2 measures diff. I think. However, my 180 Firstbloods are longer than the 179 pistols, so ninthward measures just like k2.
i think sometimes companies share moulds from one model to another, so say a 171 of one ski shares its mold with a ski from a different lineup that is say 169, they bump the lenghts(the lengths they say they are) up or down a few cm's to make it sound ideal for that perticular ski lineup.
OK imagine K2 and some other company say Line are making two similar skis. Both ski's ACTUAL planar length are 180 cm. However Line advertises its ski as 176 cm long and K2 advertises its ski 180 cm. The reason? Line measures their skis BEFORE the tips and tails are flapped up. The K2 is measured when the tips and tails are flapped up. The ski is still measured tip to tail its just the tip and the tail are a few centimeterls closer.
