Ban carry on items.
We made a temporary security fix by renforcing cockpit doors after 9'11. But the terrorists have adapted and come up with a new plan to attack the west (liquid explosives). And now we need to take security even more seriously and ban on carry on items.
Before you object think about what you actually use of all the stuff you put in your carry on bag and all the stuff you put in thinking it might be used. Maybe a book? Which can easily be carried. Your mp3/ipod can easily be put in your pocket. A sweatshirt or jacket can be tied around the waist or thrown over a should. And all the snacks you could ever need are for sale in the terminal area.
Main reason why
1. The seurity screaning is not as effective as we like to think. Its just not possible for the screeners to accuratly scan every bag. While we like to think it is we all know that humans are prone to fatigue, lack of intrest, and error . Given the massive amount of items they process each day a few "errors" have to be made. Especially since almost anything can be used as a weapon in the right hands. you can even do some serious damage with a rolled up newspaper.
2. An independent organization was hired to "test" the effectiveness of the airport screenings and they reported they were able to enter the secure area of the airport with potential leathal weapons via carry on bags.
It would be a minor inconvenience but it would do three main things.
1. Security check point lines would be greatly reduced. meaning the two hour buffer time you need for international flights could be reduced. Reducing the lines will make fewer people late for there flgihts meaing planes leave on time more often.
2. More importantly the terrorists are going to have a MUCH harder time bringing a bomb, weapon, or an imaginary bomb to scare the ocupants of the plane into following their demands.
3. reducing the amount of things terrorists can bring on a plane makes it that much harder for them acomplish there goals.
