Spud Guns (Potato Guns)

HEy, I was just wondering if anybody had any really good ideas about building potato guns. Like how to make a good ignition thingy, because the grill ignitor sucks. Post if you have made a good potato gun.

my brother and his neighbour made this crazy one,it shot the potato 200 meters and a 15 foot flame would come out the end,it was made from a huge aluminum tube,it was awesme

i made one like 4 years ago....it was CRAZY!! it was like 6 feet tall. i would ram in a potatoe then open the back end and spray in some hair spray and then close it back up....then i would be created and put like nails or rocks or something in on top of the potato and then i would hit the igniter and BOOM!! that hussie would shoot out of sight and the shit ontop of the potato would come out like buckshot and shred everything in its path.

the only reason the grill ignitor sucks for you is because you didn't install it properly.

I totally agree with yeti, you just aren't doing it right. I have two and they are lethal, if you were to hit someone in the chest or head they would probably die. Both of mine are combustion but air pressure ones work the best by far.

i use ether as my propellant. I've blown the cover off the back of mine because it's such a violent explosion.

i made spud guns that could bust a 2x4. i used grill ignitors and they work perfectly, you need to use the screw trick, have a screw on each side with wires connecting them to the ignitor and the spark jumps the whole way across the chamber. and sharpen the tip of the barrel so that it shreds the potato to the right size when you push it in. oh yea, and ALWYAS clean it out when you're gonna let it sit a long time, cause if not the glue will eat away and they will blow apart in your hands, trust me it happened tome before

me and my friend made this one like 3 years ago, it was sick. it had a ramrod holder (the middle tube) and a sight (the top tude)

I use the grill ignitor right, and the spark is huge, thats not the problem. It's just that my ignitor keeps getting stuck, or won't push is enogh because it's not good. The grill ignitor fire the gun great, when it works and pushs down enough, I think I just need a new one.

The pizio lighters work greatm you just have to get a new one, clean it regularly, and make sure it has a big ass spark.

ya i have one, just pvc plastic tubing, and have a screw off bottom, put maybe propane in there and then we light it with a bbq lighter and it launches like crazy

take a paper cup wrap it is duct tape so it will fit in your gun, fill it with paint balls and put it down the barrel, be carful not to pop the paintballs. gas it and fire it at someone the will shit themselves.

ABS or PVC, the temperatures reach should go away quickly, do know use liquid gas though. Thats just dangerous. And use ABS, it holds up better under high presures.

spud guns are actually safe as shit. the bursting pressure of PVC is about 200-300psi and the average pressure of a launce is only 20-30psi (www.spudgun.com)

i was thinking some sort of a spray like you would have in a auto engine, with the barbecule lighter as the spark plug, and the potato, as a piston of sorts.

there is a site that has details on a fully machined aluminum cannon fired using air pressure. He gets a muzzle velocity of like 405ft/sec with a distance of like 3000 feet.

Also, any of you heard of punkin' chunkin'? Now THOSE guys are fucking nuts! Just imagine the conversation:

'Hmm...i've got this pumpkin...and i want to launch it really far!'
'yeah that sounds like a good idea...lets stuff it down a metal tube, hook up a car sized tank of propane and fire it into the next state!'

This guy in highschool had an air pressure one made with an air pig. It was huge and couldn't fire potatoes most of the time because they would just bust in the gun and it would shoot confetti. He made wooden projectiles and shit though.

The same guy made a small gun using 3/4 or so inch copper piping and put AA baterries in it. He could shoot through just about anything with it.
