When I turn my computer on, I get the dumb Norton pop-up thing telling me I have "Trojan Vundo" and not to my surprise, norton cant do shit about it. So I went to the Symantec site, and printed the removal instructions. I did a system restore point and started in safe mode to try to get rid of it. I went to where it told me to, then it would tell me to delete a certain value, but I couldn't because the value it wants me to delete doesnt exist. What the fuck is wrong, and what the hell do I do about it?

Get a better anti-virus, like AVG. Go to www.download.com and search for AVG. Its free and actually works, unlike Norton.

I like the idea of another anti-virus program so thank you for one good idea. I would look into getting a mac for more reasons than one, but I already have the PC, and a lot of money invested in software made for windows. My question still remains, why cant I find the values I'm supposed to delete, does it mean the virus alert is bullshit?

Another thing, I tried just deletin the infected file () but it says its in use by another person or program, and I have everything closed.

im guessing because its in use by the operating system itself, therefore you cant get rid of it, its kind of a catch 22 .. again, not to be just another one saying it.. but i'd get a mac, its such a breathe of fresh air not having to worry about that junk

You most likely can't delete it because the virus is running. You may be able to delete it if you can start up in Safe-mode. But I would still recommend AVG, norton is notoriously bad at actually deleting real viruses.

I thought about starting in safe mode and trying to delete it, but I'm too lazy. I'll just get AVG.
(When I updated my virus deffinitions last night and ran the scan it said norton deleted 4 viruses but it wouldnt tell me what it deleted)

Well either AVG sucks or Norton sucks so bad it makes shit up. I got AVG and ran it, it didnt find anything. That means that either Norton made up the whole thing, or AVG sucks.

Well as you said Norton did delete 4 viruses so it may have gotten it, and I can assure you, AVG does not suck. Did you make sure to get all the updates for AVG?

I ran it the same hour I got it, its an old virus, and from all I could tell everything was up to date. I know the virus is still there because I still have the alert window that I cant close, and the scan from norton said "Your Computer is still infected with viruses" so idk what to do its just dumb.

norton does make stuff up lol, it's constantly blocking "intrusion attempts" on my parent's pc.

those aren't fake, that just means something/some site is trying to download a trojan or spyware on your computer...

While the intrusion attempts aren't made up, they aren't always someone actually attempting to put a trojan on your computer. It can simply be someone scanning the internet for vulnerable computers.

Wait, you say you ran it the same hour you got it, but, while you were installing it, did you get all the updates? You should just double check that you have all the updates because the install file is older and won't have all the up to date virus definitions.
