Ski cores

foam is the cheapest, cause you don't really have to do anything besides squirt it into the mold. its also the softest and least durable, but it can be very light. wood core is expensive, and can be stiff, medium, or soft flexing, depending on the types of wood used. wood is durable, and holds camber well. THC is a combination of wood and foam, which i'm sure is intended to use the advantages of both.

wood is really good, and can be lighter then foam. Spaceframe isnt really a core, neither are power channels, they are just both ways of placement of thicker core, if u ask me, power channels are a fuckload more reliable, and overall better.

Most cheap skis use foam. I think a majority of twin tips use wood cause it's more durable (with the exception of the 1080 and 720).

Just Huck It

A wood core has the potential to make a snappier, stiffer ski. It tends to hold up better over time and provide a lot more pop off of a jump.

Foam allows for a more flexable, forgiving ski, which is nice on sketchy landings, where a stiffer ski will throw you on your face. Foam is only good for a season or two of use though, because as you flex the ski, the core deteriorates.


THC is a core by rossi that combines foam and wood.

Spaceframe is a construction by Salomon that increases edge hold underfoot while reducing tip and tail weight. All spaceframe skis (except for next year's proform-only 1080 Comps) are foam core.

Beta technology increases torsional and longitudinal stiffness while reducing weight.
